September 16, 7–8:30 pm: Climate Wednesdays continues online with “Green Collar Jobs: Making a Living, Forging a Better World”
With over a million New Yorkers out of work and a steadily warming climate, our communities need green jobs more than ever. A "green recovery" can create jobs while revitalizing neighborhoods, transforming our energy infrastructure, and healing our ecosystems. Where are the climate-friendly jobs now, where will they be in the coming years, and how can New York create more of them in a way that combats social and environmental injustice?
Our panelists are Ross Gould of Workforce Development Institute, Max Levitzke of Solar One, and Aram Marcelle of Green City Force, with Elizabeth “Betta” Broad of New Yorkers for Clean Power as moderator.
Registration is required AT LEAST ONE HOUR in advance of the program.

Sunday, September 20, 1 pm: Join 350Brooklyn at the March for Climate Justice through Racial Justice
Start off Climate Week with a march beginning at 59th Street and Eighth Avenue that links the struggle for a livable climate with the demand for racial justice. Demands include declaring a NYC climate emergency, a Green New Deal for our city, a Red Deal that prioritizes the needs of indigenous people, renaming “Columbus Day” as “Indigenous Peoples Day,” defunding and demilitarizing the NYPD, direct investment in BIPOC (Black, Indigenous and People of Color) communities that are disproportionately affected by the climate crisis, and an equitable response to COVID-19.
Meet 350Brooklyn at West 63rd Street and Central Park West.
You can RSVP ahead of time with this form. Check out the website or the facebook event page for more information about the march.
Come to the October Meeting: Moving forward with New York Renews. Thursday, October 8, 7:30 pm
New York Renews is the statewide coalition of more than 200 organizations—350Brooklyn among them—that won the passage of the historic 2019 Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (CLCPA). How can we ensure that New York meets the ambitious goals of this landmark legislation? What’s the Climate Community Investment Act, and how would it fund a transition to clean energy by making polluters pay for climate damage? Learn about this essential work at our next meeting. Pre-registration required, and we’ll share the link in the next newsletter. Put it on your calendar now! The meeting will take place on Thursday, October 8 at 7:30 pm.
350Brooklyn and anti-racism: Work in progress
In the wake of George Floyd’s murder on May 25, many more Americans were roused to take action against racism and white supremacy. 350Brooklyn is no exception. While we have supported campaigns led, or significantly shaped by, people of color—the Gowanus Neighborhood Coalition for Justice, Renewable Rikers, NY Renews—we asked ourselves, what more can and should we do?
We devoted our July meeting to the question of what does and does not make a good ally, and we hosted a panel to hear from local community leaders. We’ve also formed a working group of 350Brooklyn members who are exploring the question: 'How might we be more inclusive and prioritize the needs of Brooklyn's BIPOC community?' with the goal of participating more meaningfully in anti-racist work within 350Brooklyn and in our communities. We will share results of that work as it becomes available. Meanwhile, if you have insights to share please contact us at [email protected] using the subject line 'Racial Inclusion'.

Help stop the North Brooklyn Pipeline: Write to the Mayor
National Grid may have lost the Williams pipeline fight, but it's still trying to bring more fracked gas into our region. Right now National Grid is tearing up neighborhoods from Brownsville to Greenpoint to put in a fracked gas pipeline, the so-called MRI project. Mayor deBlasio has vowed to stop all new fossil fuel infrastructure in NYC, so tell him to stop this one! Send a letter here.
Support Gowanus rezoning demands
Now more than ever, the city must meet the equity demands of the Gowanus Neighborhood for Justice for the impending Gowanus neighborhood rezoning. Sign this petition urging the Mayor to meet the coalition’s demands, which include funding for capital needs at Gowanus, Warren and Wyckoff NYCHA housing, net zero combined sewage overflow, and the creation of an environmental justice special district with local oversight.
