Hi there,

Thanks so much for signing up! I’m really excited to be in touch. As a grassroots campaign, we’re fueled by community support.

And now is the time when we really need it. Our community is facing a number of crises: housing, the pandemic, and climate change. But we can overcome these challenges together. We have a vision and platform that is supported by leading journalists, including Pulitzer Prize winner Glenn Greenwald, and by legendary Berkeley leaders such as Gus Newport.

But the support we need most is from people like you. That’s why we want to set out the issues clearly.

This is where I stand on key issues compared to our current mayor, Jesse.

MONEY IN POLITICS

Will the candidate commit to keeping corporate money out of politics?

Wayne is a grassroots organizer who has committed to taking only small ($50 max) donations. Jesse is taking contributions from powerful interests, including Comcast’s PAC and one of the largest developers in Berkeley.

POLICE REFORM

Will the candidate stand against the militarization of police?

Wayne’s first political campaign was the successful effort to end the death penalty in Illinois and has stood for decades against police brutality. Jesse voted to send our police to receive military training.

HOMELESSNESS

Will the candidate stand against the criminalization of homelessness, and focus on effective research-based interventions?

Wayne is committed to using a model recommended by top researchers at UCSF to effectively reduce homelessness in Berkeley. Jesse has used unconstitutional measures to criminalize “sitting, sleeping, or lying outside.”

CLIMATE CHANGE

Will the candidates adopt a climate action timeline that reflects the urgency of the planetary crisis?

Wayne is committed to making Berkeley carbon neutral by 2025, consistent with the scientific consensus on the timeline to fight climate change. Jesse endorses a plan to achieve carbon neutrality in 30 years -- 20 years after the IPCC’s recommended timeline.

This is what we can achieve together. We can put an end to military training for Berkeley police officers, like Urban Shield. We can address global warming head-on, prevent future wildfires, and build a beautiful green new city.

We can bring this change to Berkeley- but only with your help.

Share this with a friend. Contribute $50 if you can. (Every Berkeley donor will be matched 6x, so your $50 becomes $350.) And join our volunteer green team if you’d like to join our team in fighting for a better future for Berkeley.

Thanks so much, and let’s be in touch.
