Today, Smart Approaches to Marijuana (SAM), the leading national, non-partisan group opposed to marijuana commercialization is pleased to announce that Dr. Kevin Sabet, president and co-founder of SAM and a former senior drug policy advisor to the Clinton, Bush, and Obama administrations, has been granted a monthly column in Newsweek.
With this development, Dr. Sabet joins the ranks of former Newsweek contributors including Fareed Zakaria, George Will, and Paul Begala.
"I'm deeply honored," said Dr. Sabet. "Newsweek is a publication with a very important history. I'm humbled by its editors' decision to allow me this platform."
The marijuana industry has spent millions of dollars to create media companies to fool lawmakers and the general public into believing the drug is harmless, and have run interference covering up any research that proves otherwise. With Congress beginning to vote on legislation such as the MORE Act, the column will spotlight key drug policy issues of the day.
Here is an excerpt from the column, which was published this morning:
"With wildfires raging in the west, an out-of-control pandemic, and unprecedented economic hardships, leadership in Congress has scheduled a vote on the MORE Act, which would federally legalize and commercialize marijuana.
"It’s a payback to pot lobbyists for their work. And no, the MORE Act is not decriminalization, states’ rights, or social justice -- as advocates have tried to paint it.
"It’s blanket marijuana commercialization. Unlimited potency, tax breaks to pot companies for advertising, and -- according to a national trade group, the end of safety sensitive drug testing for transportation workers as we know it."
