Pennsylvania’s power grid is in trouble—and we just got a major warning from the state’s top utility regulator.

A new report from the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission warns that our regional power grid will struggle to keep up with growing demand as soon as 2027—that’s next year! And the problem is expected to get worse as more AI data centers come online. [1]

That could mean more power outages—and higher electric bills for Pennsylvania families.

But we have a chance to do something about it.

House Bill 2380 would require Pennsylvania’s largest electric utilities—like PECO, PPL, First Energy, and Duquesne—to add battery storage to the grid. Batteries on the grid store excess electricity when demand is low and release it when we need to cool or heat our homes.

HB 2380 has passed the House Energy Committee. Now it must pass the full House.

Tell your state representative to support HB 2380 and help prepare Pennsylvania’s power grid for increased energy demands. [[link removed]]

There are so many reasons why Pennsylvanians are worried about AI data centers. They are driving up electricity bills, use huge amounts of energy and water, could be a big source of pollution, are loud—and now we know that we could see blackouts more often if new energy isn’t brought online ASAP.

Thirteen states are already moving ahead with battery storage, including Maryland, New Jersey, and New York. [2]

Pennsylvanians deserve protections, too.

Big corporations are using this moment to try to get more dirty energy online to increase their profits. But fossil fuels will mean higher electricity bills, more pollution, and contribute to climate change.

Getting battery storage on the grid with HB 2380 will:

* Keep the grid operating when demand spikes
* Reduce the need for expensive and dirty power plants
* Help keep electricity bills down

Even if it doesn’t get through the State Senate, getting this bill passed through the State House this fall makes it even more likely that it will be one of the first bills to pass in the next legislative session.

Please urge your state representative to vote yes on HB 2380 to get more clean battery storage on the grid to prevent blackouts, higher costs, and more dirty energy.
