Hi John,

September puts us at over 550 days since we've passed commonsense gun legislation in the House. Yesterday was the 26th anniversary of the Assault Weapons Ban being signed into law.

This law prohibited the manufacture and sale of semi-automatic firearms and large-capacity ammunition magazines for civilian use.

Unfortunately, this law expired after just ten years.

I ran for Congress because I couldn’t stand to see PA-05 and other communities across the country suffer from the gun violence epidemic any longer. One of the core tenets of my campaign was that we couldn’t wait for commonsense gun reform -- and I’ve followed through on that in Washington every day.

Since being sworn in, I've been part of hearings in the House Judiciary Committee about the threat that the gun violence crisis poses to our communities. I've voted for H.R. 8, the bipartisan bill that would implement universal background checks for all gun purchases, as well as bills to close the Charleston loophole and to reauthorize the Violence Against Women Act while closing the boyfriend loophole. I’ve remained a steady advocate in this fight -- and that’s earned me an F rating from the NRA.

Now, I carry my F rating with pride.

As we near the November election, I know that the progress we've made to make our communities safer is on the line.

GOP outside groups have a target on our race, and we know pro-Trump super PACs are planning to out-spend me in my district. Right now, we risk losing this seat and the progress we’ve made on combating gun violence if we don’t put up a fight.

I want you to know that I'm committed to continuing my service to families across our district, but I hope I can count on you to stand with me in the fights ahead.
