PFLAG Connects

Dear John:

It's time to connect through PFLAG's pillars of Support, Education, and Advocacy!

Q Chat Space: A Community for LGBTQ+ Teens

It's back-to-school time, and that means teens are going to need some support, especially given the lack of GSA access for so many students. Enter Q Chat Space, which provides live, chat-based online discussion groups for LGBTQ+ teens ages 13 to 19. Conversations are facilitated by experienced staff from such organizations Hetrick-Martin Institute, SMYAL, and Time Out Youth.

Know an LGBTQ+ youth who could use some peer support? Check out these great groups from Q Chat Space!

Three Steps to Being a Better Voter Registration Advocate in Your State (While You’re Stuck at Home)

Just because you’re staying in, and times are tough, doesn't mean your GOTV efforts should stop! So, stay safe and take these steps to engage:

  1. Learn: Once you have verified that you are registered to vote take some time to learn more about the specifics regarding voter registration in your state. You can find the election office for your state at usa.gov/election-office or by doing a Google search for [state, board of elections].
  2. Watch: Watch (and share) this great video from VoteRiders, that reminds voters to confirm that they’re registered AND have the ID required to register and vote in their state. You should also check out PFLAG National’s 5 minute video on hosting a voter registration drive and the June PFLAG Academy On-Demand session PFLAG Votes 2020: Our Right and Our Responsibility.
  3. Share: Use emails, texts, and social media to share details about the requirements to register, the types of ID you need to register, and the voter registration deadline in your state with your friends and family.

Voter registration day

Advocacy

Tuesday, September 22nd is National Voter Registration Day!

Just because organizing in-person voter registration drives is near-impossible this year doesn’t mean that you can’t participate! Online tools are an incredibly effective way to help register voters, reach more and different audiences, and accommodate individuals from all 50 states and DC. Check out these great resources from our friends at National Voter Registration Day, and then put them to good use next week. Together we're going to get out the vote!

Something to Talk About...Live!

Join PFLAG National live this Thursday, September 17th at 4:30 PM ET/1:30 PM where we'll be discussing the article, "13 queer classics you need to have on your bookshelf," from Vogue (France) by Rosalind Jana.

You can watch the broadcast live on Facebook, YouTube, or Twitter.

Please note: as of this email sending, the Facebook link is getting an error message. This is a known Facebook error, which should be resolved by broadcast time on Thursday!
