Court Ruling Allows Deportation of Contributing Immigrants
WASHINGTON, D.C. — A court ruling today allows the Trump administration to end Temporary Protected Status for an estimated 300,000 Salvadorans.
The loss of protected status will also affect more than 200,000 U.S. citizen children, according to the ruling.
El Salvador ranks first among TPS recipients in the United States. More than half have resided in the U.S. for 20 years or more. El Salvador has the world’s highest murder rate per capita.
“This is devastating news not just for families who are losing their protected status, but also for their communities,” said Ali Noorani, President and CEO of the National Immigration Forum. “TPS recipients have deep economic and social roots in communities across the nation. And, as the U.S. responds to the COVID-19 pandemic, TPS recipients are standing shoulder to shoulder with Americans and doing essential work.”
