"Only one state generated more complaints about robocalls than Colorado, where residents received 2.4 million a day"
-- The Denver Post (July 25, 2019)

On a scale of 1 to 5, how annoying do you find unwanted robocalls?

John,

Have you ever been hanging out and you look down at your phone to see a random number calling you -- but it happens to have the same area code as you?

You might be thinking it's the car repair shop, the vet calling you back, or your order at the local shop available for pick-up. More often than not -- it's none of these, and the voice on the other line is talking nonsense about a loan you don't have or a bogus credit account you never owned -- even with a reference number!

In 2018 alone, 48 billion -- yes, billion -- robocalls were placed in the United States. And Coloradans like me received 2.4 million of those per day, ranking our state number two on the "most complaints about robocalls" list.

That's not a list I want us to be on. So I did something about it.

Last month, I helped pass the Stopping Bad Robocalls Act in the House so people like you will finally be able to block these annoying spam calls, and that the FCC (Federal Communications Commission) can take the additional steps necessary to better protect us consumers from these phone scams.

But now -- while we wait for the Senate to do the same -- I want to hear from you, John. On a scale of 1 to 5, how annoying do YOU find these unwanted robocalls?

People are fed up with robocalls -- and frankly, so am I. I left my public defense firm to run for elected office because I wanted to help people. Not just one client at a time, but hundreds of thousands of people at once by passing just a single law. And something as simple as ending annoying robocalls may seem small -- but it's still important, and will make a positive impact on people's lives. That's what public service is all about, right?

I look forward to seeing your response, John. (Personally, I'm at a full 5.)

-- Diana
