Big AI corporations are unleashing their dangerous, extraordinarily powerful tech on society without guardrails — and all of us will pay the price if we don’t do something to stop them.

OpenAI's artificial intelligence tech recently hacked into at least two companies all on its own. Governments are using Anthropic's Claude to surveil populations and conduct research for a biological weapons program. And while the rest of us struggle to afford the basic necessities, CEOs continue to get even richer from technology exploiting our own communities.

We cannot wait for yet another crisis to act. There's bipartisan support for reigning in unregulated, ultra-powerful AI. But Congress must take immediate steps to investigate companies like OpenAI and Anthropic.

And it’s going to take pressure from all of us to make it happen.

States and other actors using AI to produce biological weapons is a grave threat. One expert said Anthropic's findings were "chilling examples of state-sponsored biological weapons developers tapping into the rapidly advancing capabilities" of top AI models.

Sen. Sanders and U.S. Rep. Greg Casar introduced legislation to pause AI development, regulate the industry, and ban the creation of AI "superintelligence." It's a critical step to prevent AI-fueled crises, and 68% of voters support the legislation. But our lawmakers must do more to create real checks on the threats of AI.
