This month, our community rode 343 miles to honor first responders, put a book put a book that helps kids support a classmate with cancer into every Stamford elementary classroom, and lined up a busy fall of ways to move together. Here’s your September Loop.

My Brave Friend in every classroom

Thanks to a generous donation from KPMG, in partnership with KPMG Family for Literacy (KFFL), this Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, 425 copies of My Brave Friend: Emma and Noah Face Cancer Together are now in every public K–5 classroom and library in Stamford, Connecticut.

Written by Livestrong and Hopecam, the book helps kids understand what cancer is and isn’t, and how to support a classmate going through it.

This summer, Livestrong Advocacy Council member Brendan Connors set a lofty goal: Get the book into every Stamford elementary school by September. This month, that goal came to life as Livestrong President & CEO Suzanne Stone and Stamford Mayor Caroline Simmons joined students for a read-aloud at Roxbury Elementary.

Designed by a cancer survivor for cancer survivors, get weekly running plans that take you from beginner to Turkey Trot 5K-ready in just six weeks.

FIRST RESPONDER RIDE FOR RESILIENCE RECAP

343 miles: one for every firefighter lost on 9/11

25 years after September 11, 2001, hundreds of riders cycled from Boston to the World Trade Center Memorial in their honor. The ride supported firefighters, who face higher rates of cancer diagnoses and deaths than the general public.

Funds raised through this event will build cancer and mental health resources specifically for first responders through Livestrong and our partners Friends of Firefighters and the Boston Fire Cancer Foundation. We're grateful to every rider, volunteer, donor, and community along the route for making this event possible.
