With a nor’easter expected to bring strong wind gusts, heavy rain, and possible flooding our way this weekend, I wanted to share a few emergency resources with you before the storm lands. Please be safe this weekend, limit unnecessary travel, check in on your neighbors who may need assistance, and follow instructions from state and local emergency management officials.

The Latest:

The nor’easter is currently projected to bring high winds, heavy rain, and possible flooding to Connecticut starting this evening through Sunday morning. As of 2pm today, Wind Advisories have been issued for all of Connecticut. Coastal Flood Warnings will be in effect for Fairfield County beginning at 6pm today through Sunday. Coastal communities should prepare for significant rainfall, strong winds, and possible flooding, especially during daytime high tides on Saturday and Sunday.

Emergency Notifications:

The State of Connecticut uses the CT Alert Emergency Notification System (ENS) to notify residents of emergencies. This system allows you to receive updates via text or email and will notify you of changing weather, evacuation orders, and other timely information, even if you lose power or do not have radio or TV access. The following towns in our community DO NOT participate in the CT Alert ENS; please consider signing up for local alerts if you are a resident of the following towns:

·       Norwalk

Power Outages: 

To report a power outage or monitor power outages in your area, please visit your utility provider’s website:

Flooded/Closed Roads:
Do not attempt to drive down a flooded road. Even a few inches of water can stall a vehicle and carry it away.
 
You can monitor road closures in real-time using the Connecticut Department of Transportation’s website CTRoads.org.
