John —

Just last week, the DNC killed the climate debate — officially siding with
party insiders and fossil fuel executives over the Democratic base. But
they couldn’t stop the climate movement.

We may not have won a climate debate yet, but thanks to the powerful
voices of organizations like the Sunrise Movement and Justice Democrats,
CNN agreed to host a seven hour long Climate Town Hall — the first of its
kind.

This discussion couldn’t be more timely. Hurricane Dorian just devastated
the Bahamas, with some estimating that as much as 70% of the island is
flooded. This devastation isn’t just historic — it’s disproportionately
impacting poorer communities and people who can’t get out of the way of
these disasters.

[ [link removed] ]We can’t just leave these communities behind to face the brunt of this
climate catastrophe alone. We need a Green New Deal to revolutionize our
energy grid, reach net zero emissions, and create millions of new jobs.

But the media needs to do more. These natural disasters are escalating
because of climate change, but too few reporters and pundits are willing
to make that connection clear to the public.

It doesn’t matter if the climate crisis is a politicized issue — we can’t
afford to protect the feelings of conservatives and climate deniers in an
era where we’re seeing record high temperatures, massive ice melts, and
deadly natural disasters.

progressive majority in Congress who won’t accept half-measures or
compromise with Armageddon. Will you donate

Solutions from the 1990s aren’t going to save our planet from catastrophe.
Compromising with fossil fuel barons and corporate millionaires will only
result in more displacement, more destruction, and more death.

We’ve already made history with this Climate Town Hall, but that can’t be
the end. We have to confront the challenges of today with solutions that
recognize the scale of the emergency we face. We must pass a Green New
Deal.

Thanks for all that you do,

Justice Democrats
