Friend—
At next week’s Democratic debate, all of the major candidates will
be on the same stage for the first time. Now we need to get them all
on the same page about confronting white nationalism.
That’s why Bend the Arc just launched a petition to ABC &
Univision, the hosts of next week’s debate. Let’s
tell them we need to hear a real conversation about how each candidate
will stop the growth of white nationalism and violence against our
communities.
We can’t address what we’re not talking about. Through the first
two debates, not a single candidate was asked about
the rise of white nationalism.
Zero questions have been asked about this massive
threat to immigrant, Latinx, Black, Muslim, Jewish, Sikh, indigenous,
and LGBTQ communities.
It’s unacceptable. We need to hear EVERY
presidential candidate forcefully reject white nationalism and share
how they plan to defeat it.
Join Bend the Arc, United We Dream, Daily Kos, Greenpeace
USA, UltraViolet, and more
to demand that the next Democratic primary debate fully addresses the
growing threat of white nationalism.
Many of our communities have been victims of police violence, white
supremacist violence, and gun violence since our country’s founding.
And the white nationalist violence we see today adds to daily threats
on our lives we already face.
White nationalism is a national crisis — and it needs to be
addressed on a national stage.
It’s an issue that impacts American voters across the country
because it’s putting us in danger, from mass shootings in Pittsburgh,
Gilroy, and El Paso to bigoted policies like mass detentions,
deportations, and the Muslim Ban. This ideology isn’t on the fringes,
it’s in the halls of power.
Since the last debate, we’ve witnessed another horrifying white
nationalist attack in El Paso, with the shooter specifically targeting
our Latinx and immigrant family — motivated by the “Great Replacement”
conspiracy theory that immigrants will replace whites.
It’s the same rhetoric that motivated the shooters in Gilroy,
Poway, Christchurch, and Pittsburgh.
It’s the same deadly lie that Fox News broadcasts daily and
President Trump embraces.
It’s an ideology that the majority of the American people
reject. And we want our next president to commit to stopping white
nationalism and fighting for a multiracial democracy where all of us
are safe and free.
Tell
ABC & Univision: we need every candidate to be asked about the
threat of white nationalism.
Thank you for joining us in this fight.
