John,
We need your help. We’ve launched a whistleblower campaign to encourage industrial animal agriculture workers to confidentially report animal abuse, worker safety, and other concerns amid the COVID-19 pandemic. In partnership with actor and animal advocate, Joaquin Phoenix, the Animal Legal Defense Fund is launching a series of billboards near slaughterhouses and dense farming communities across the country. Our online tip portal allows individuals to remain anonymous and avoid retaliation.
And we need your help to spread the word if we are to help animals together. Please take a moment to share our whistleblower campaign on social media, so that more whistleblowers can step forward and expose abuse. |

The COVID-19 pandemic is shining a light on acts of cruelty in the factory farming industry and exposing the risks to humans that result from the mistreatment of animals. Forced to work in cramped environments, over 40,000 slaughterhouse workers have tested positive for COVID-19, and 203 have already died. The pandemic also upended factory farming’s supply chain. As slaughterhouses temporarily shutdown, many animals were left in factory farms longer than anticipated, growing larger and older than slaughterhouses could handle or the industry desired.
The industry responded with what they call “depopulation,” but in reality is the mass killing of farmed animals — suffocating chickens with foam, gassing pigs with carbon dioxide, and using ventilation shutdown, where animals are baked alive slowly as the temperature rises. A graphic video was released after a whistleblower came forward in Iowa, exposing the reality of ventilation shutdown: pigs called out in distress as they were slowly cooked to death with steam over the course of many hours.
Whistleblowers are critical to exposing and stopping these abuses. You can speak out for farmed animals by sharing our campaign on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Thank you, as always, for each action you take on behalf of animals. |
For the animals,
