Dear Supporter,
Media outlets are reporting the Liberal caucus says its number one priority is to make a massive temporary spending program permanent.
The Canada Emergency Response Benefit is a temporary program ending this month that provided $2,000 per month to Canadians who lost their jobs during the pandemic.
But now the Liberal caucus thinks it would be a great idea to continue to send out cheques like this forever – to everyone!
That’s the logic behind the idea of a “guaranteed annual income.” Every person in Canada gets a cheque, every month. Rich or poor, working or not.
As you might guess, it’s a jaw-dropping expensive idea.
Depending on the design, this kind of permanent program could cost as much as $500 billion per year. Every. Single. Year.
What would the Liberals cut to pay for this?
Which taxes would they hike?
We’re already running a $350 billion deficit and they think a new $500 billion program is a smart move?
The Liberals need to hear from Canadians about what a terrible idea this is.
