Dear John,

I have not been too well recently and am under doctor’s orders to rest. But I just cannot stand by and do nothing when so much bad stuff is happening in our politics. So though I can’t be out there making speeches and doing interviews I can write this short message to you and ask you to help the fight to defend our democracy. Because the fight really matters. More than ever.

So far, those who believe in democracy are standing strong and holding firm.

As a former Speaker of the House of Commons I am so proud of all those MPs from all sides in Parliament who been willing to put our country first, even at the risk to their own careers.

In historic votes last night and tonight they have voted to stop Boris Johnson’s undemocratic No Deal, coming together across party lines to tell the Government they cannot use Brexit to divide our parliament from the people.

None of this would have been possible without people like you.

Your help, your efforts and your generosity got this movement going. You have helped pay marches, adverts, social media and a great team at the People’s Vote campaign who have begun to turn the tide in Parliament and in the country.

I'll chip in £15

But the battle is now going to become more intense. We know the Government is spending £100 million on propaganda for No Deal. We know they will use every dirty trick in the book to force their Brexit on you. We know we need more money if we’re going to continue to fight.

If you can spare just a few pounds now, it could be make all the difference tomorrow.

The fight to protect our democracy is only just beginning.

Help us take the battle to Boris Johnson and stop him from forcing his Brexit on you.

 I'll chip in £3

 I'll chip in £7

 I'll chip in £15

I'll chip in another amount

Thank you for your incredible generosity.
