John,

When this email went out this morning, the links were broken. They've now been fixed. Apologies! You can sign up to join the global climate strike on September 20th here.

For the past year, we’ve seen growing disruption around the world as young people everywhere get increasingly fed up with politicians who continually fail to act on climate. The student climate strikes started last August with just one girl--16 year old Greta Thunberg of Sweden. Now, millions of people in hundreds of countries are striking from school every single Friday to demand action on climate.

Right now, our generation has an opportunity to seize this momentum and channel it into a worldwide call to action at a scale our leaders cannot ignore: the global climate strike.

On September 20th, millions of people all over the world will walk out of school and work as a united force. This will take place just days before the United Nations begins a major climate action summit on September 23rd, making this a key moment to put our movement in the global spotlight. Together we will disrupt the expected day-to-day functioning of society, sending a message to politicians around the world that we refuse to wait any longer for them to act.

Be a part of the largest youth-led global demonstration in history. Pledge to join the September 20th global climate strike.

There is already so much energy building around this strike. A worldwide coalition is forming with hundreds of national and international organizations calling on their members to strike -- including major labor unions like United Electrical with 35,000 members in the US.

Within Sunrise, we’re getting to work building teams of strike recruitment captains in towns and cities across the US. Recruitment captains will recruit hundreds of new people from their schools, workplaces and communities to pledge to strike, and give them the tools they need to walk out.

Then on strike day, millions of us will all walk out of school and work. We’ll head straight to sit-ins and rallies at the offices of our local political leaders, where we’ll demand that they join us in our fight for a Green New Deal. And on the global stage, we’ll capture the attention of leaders around the world, putting pressure on everyone participating in the UN’s September 23rd climate summit to take serious action to stop this crisis now.

This is your chance to help put our demand for transformative climate action in the global spotlight. To pull this off, we need teams of people ready to recruit, plan strike-day actions, and spread the word in every town and city in the country, including yours. Will you join us?

Yes, I will become a strike captain, recruiting people in my community to strike.

Yes, I will organize or co-coordinate a strike in my town.

Yes, I will pledge to strike.

Right now, we have a choice as a generation: let the “adults” in the room keep selling our future to oil and gas executives, or link arms and force our leaders to take this crisis as seriously as we do. Politicians are only able to stay silent because we let them. It’s time for us to get louder.

Victoria Fernandez

P.S. We have just three weeks to build teams of strike captains all across the country to prepare for the global climate strike. Can you chip in to help us go all-in on coaching, building art, and sending out supplies to make the strike massive?
