John,
Earlier this week, televangelist Pat Robertson made outlandish statements about our movement to end white supremacy -- recklessly decrying Black Lives Matter as an attempt to destroy Christianity.
From the beginning, Black Lives Matter has stood by its core tenet that all people are equal -- regardless of their race, religion or disbelief, sexual and gender identity and expression, economic status, disability, immigration status, or intergenerational way of life.
To suggest otherwise is not only inflammatory and dangerous, but also offensive to our Christian siblings who are standing with us and among us in our fight for justice and unity.
In response, we are calling on The Christian Broadcasting Network to publicly apologize and discontinue the spread of misinformation against BLM and its leadership. Please join us and add your name to our petition today.
Pat Robertson’s comments stand against everything that Christianity stands for. While he is advocating for sexism, misogyny, and supremacy, Christianity was founded on the principle of empathy over hate.
People are hurting all across this country due to the carelessness of comments made by individuals like Pat Robertson. At what point do those individuals who walk alongside him stop and say, "Enough is enough with the sexist, misogynistic, and supremacist way of displaying the bigotry that continues to flow from the souls of many of our leaders"?
Until hate and racism is eradicated, America will continue to be a divided nation.
We, the Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation, embody and practice justice, liberation, and peace in our engagements with one another, and we invite Pat Robertson -- and anyone who agrees with his statements and sentiments -- to join us in our movement.
In the meantime, we are calling for a full apology and a full stop to the slander of our movement. John, will you add your name and call on The Christian Broadcasting Network to issue an apology immediately?
Together, we will continue to galvanize these moments of division and false character accusations as fuel to move our country and world forward. Together, we will continue to rise up until all Black lives are valued and matter across this world.
In love and solidarity,
Patrisse Cullors
