Dear PFAW Member,
A lot of the donors behind political organizations’ ad campaigns like to
remain anonymous. But I’m proud to tell you that I’m the “anonymous donor”
who recently gave money to help win North Carolina. I WANT people to know
it.
I gave $60K to fund PFAW’s Latinos Vote! targeted ads, to mobilize Latinx
voters in this absolutely critical swing state.
The large and growing Latinx population in North Carolina can make THE
difference in elections in that state – especially close ones – just like
it has done with recent elections in Virginia, another battleground state
that looks A LOT like North Carolina in its demographic and political
trends.
PFAW led the way among progressive organizations in turning Virginia from
red to blue over the past few election cycles, and I have high hopes that,
with your support, we can do the same thing in North Carolina this year.
[ [link removed] ]Will you join me by giving to PFAW’s election programs right now?
With my contribution, PFAW was able to team up with the League of
Conservation Voters in a mutual effort to rally North Carolina's Latinx
vote. My hope was to create a unique BANG-FOR-THE-BUCK opportunity by
harnessing the power of these two wonderful organizations for strategic
and efficient results.
North Carolina sits at the nexus of all of our 2020 priorities. This is
why ALL of PFAW’s 2020 campaigns are so heavily invested in the state:
* As a critical Electoral College battleground state, North Carolina
could determine the outcome of the presidential race,
* U.S. Senator Thom Tillis, a right-wing Trump Republican, is locked in
a dead heat for reelection. Flipping his seat could change control of
the Senate and crush Mitch McConnell’s majority,
* There are several U.S. House seats in play… and,
* At the state level, there’s a governor’s race. We also have the chance
to flip BOTH chambers of the state legislature, which would give
Democrats control during the next round of redistricting and prevent
another 10 years of Republican gerrymandering. (The dominance of the
Far Right in NC for these past 10 years has been the direct result of
the Republican victories in 2010. That year’s red wave gave the GOP
control of the last round of redistricting and allowed them to
gerrymander the hell out of the state.)

gerrymandering and enable a progressive future for both North Carolina and
the country>>
PFAW knows how to galvanize our voters in North Carolina and other
critical states.
PFAW has been the first, and in some cases only, independent organization
to work to mobilize the Latino vote in key races in North Carolina and
other states with the fastest-growing Latinx populations. And PFAW’s
unique work to identify and support exciting, transformational young
candidates for state and local office can make the difference not only in
NC’s crucial state legislative and local races, but it also has the
potential to determine the outcome at the top of the ballot as well by
energizing young voters to turn out.
I saw what PFAW did in Virginia and I’m thrilled to support their work in
“the next Virginia,” the all important battleground of North Carolina.
And as a progressive Kentuckian, I’m as eager as anyone to end Mitch
McConnell’s GOP Senate majority and see Democrats keep winning in the
South.

Thank you for everything you’re doing in this fight.
Your fellow PFAW supporter,
Tom Wallace Lyons
P.S. When I’ve written to you in the past, it’s been on the issue of the
Supreme Court and federal judges. So I feel as though I’d be remiss not to
remind you that the future of the Supreme Court and our entire Judicial
Branch is also on the line. As a progressive Kentuckian, I’ve been pained
to watch my state’s senator Mitch McConnell work hand-in-hand with Donald
Trump to pollute our federal courts with unfit, often bigoted, far-right
extremists. All the more reason to focus on North Carolina, which could
determine the fate of the presidency AND the U.S. Senate … and, by
extension, our courts!
