I could never have expected this…

James here. This was me as a public school teacher on the Westside of San
Antonio. Room 112 at Rhodes Middle School.

If you told me that just over a decade later I would be the Democratic
nominee for what is likely to be the most competitive and most expensive
U.S. Senate race in the country…I would’ve called you crazy.

But here we are.

For far too long, I saw up close as my students and so many Texas families
got screwed by a system designed to hold them back. Puppet politicians
rigged the system in favor of their billionaire and corporate mega-donors
— and I saw how real people suffered as a result.

Working Texans needed a champion. So I ran for the Texas House in 2018 to
fight for kids like my students, who lived in one of the poorest zip codes
in our state but deserved a fair shot.

It was a seat no one thought we could win. But together, we flipped a
district that Donald Trump had won just two years earlier.

In the Texas House, I went to work passing legislation to fund our
schools, expand job opportunities for young adults, and lower the cost of
child care, housing, and prescription drugs. I capped the cost of insulin
and passed the largest property tax cut in Texas history. We did all this
without taking a dime of corporate PAC money.

But the fight isn’t over. Now, as the same billionaire mega-donors take
over the federal government, working people need more fighters in
Washington who will take power back for our communities.

That’s why I am running for the U.S. Senate in Texas.

We’re the underdogs in this fight. We’re going up against Ken Paxton, the
most corrupt politician in America. The super PACs propping up his
campaign can spend limitless amounts of billionaire and corporate money to
buy this seat and keep the system rigged for their donors.

I know we have the power to do the seemingly impossible and flip Texas.
But I can’t do it alone.

That’s why I am asking you, John:
