Trump had information the American people desperately needed. He knew the virus was airborne, highly contagious, and deadly. He knew how devastating the pandemic would be.
But instead of telling Americans to mask up and stay home, he lied to us. Instead of using the resources of the richest country in the world to prepare for and stop the spread of the virus, he told us it would disappear. “Like a miracle.”

After the virus reached our shores, when it became clear it was hitting Black, Latino, and Indigenous communities the hardest, Trump and his advisors scrapped their plans for a federally coordinated response and left our communities to fend for themselves.
While multimillion-dollar corporations skipped to the front of the line and gobbled up relief funds, Black and Latino small business owners were forced to watch everything they had worked so hard to build crumble almost overnight. More than half of Black-owned businesses may not survive the pandemic.
Instead of extending an economic lifeline to the families struggling just to keep a roof over their heads, the president and the GOP did whatever it took to rescue the stock market. They fought to force workers back into unsafe jobs, and to protect their employers from any liability. These workers have to bear the burden of knowing that every night they might bring the virus home to their families.
Trump could have prevented the deaths of thousands of our community members: vecinos, tíos, abuelos, husbands, wives, sons, and daughters. It didn’t have to be this way. And it doesn’t have to be this way. Working together, our communities can build a country where no one’s life is expendable.
