Friend --
Eight years ago, I walked into my first NLC Institute weekend, anxious and excited to be in a room of peers who were brilliant and dedicated to the common good. Today, I am honored to write to you today to introduce myself as the next President & CEO of New Leaders Council.
When I joined the NLC family as a Fellow in Washington, DC, I was eager to step into my own power as a Millennial leader and wanted to connect with a community of people with similar values and hopes for the world.
Since then, I have served as a Curriculum Chair, a Chapter Director, a LEAD trainer in the NLC Institute for seven years, presented a Spark! Talk at NLC Convention in 2016, and met countless NLC community members who have opened up opportunities I know I wouldn’t have had without our movement.
Prior to this new role, I lived the NLC values of entrepreneurship as a consultant for global brands on corporate social responsibility and diversity, equity, and inclusion. I worked with Hollywood on systemic change in the era of #MeToo and #OscarsSoWhite. As the Executive Director of She Should Run, I helped grow a movement of women ready to run the world, which scaled She Should Run’s “Ask A Woman to Run” program to be a nationwide movement serving over 20,000 women ready to run for office.
My story is one of thousands that show how NLC transforms Millennial leaders’ impact in our communities and country.
The expansion of NLC’s reach is thanks to our former President, Mark Riddle, and our dedicated staff, Board, volunteers, and supporters who grew our movement to serve 50 chapters across the country. As we turn the next NLC chapter, I am excited to start sharing with you my values and vision for sustaining this legacy and shaping our shared future. Over the upcoming months, I will be focused on a clear vision and path to increase our funding, membership, alumni membership, and branding.
As I look ahead, my vision is focused on the power of our members’ stories. It is time for NLC’s story to be told. Will you share your NLC story with me?
I recognize the deep responsibility of shepherding our organization and movement through the current era, where the very meaning of democracy is up to a new generation of leaders to redefine. I can’t and won’t do this alone.
Daring leaders are willing to step up and do what has never been done before. I believe NLC can and should model that leadership. Over the coming months I will be reaching out to hear your stories and priorities for NLC in a listening tour across the NLC community. In the meantime, please share your NLC story with me.
Thank you for the opportunity to lead with you.
Let’s do this!
Clare
