Last week, I submitted a Sunshine request to the Governor regarding the no-bid contract we have with the McChrystal Group. The McChrystal Group, which was founded by General Stan McChrystal and his partners, is a consulting firm that is helping the Governor manage the government response to COVID-19. Initially, the contract was for $600,000, all of which was paid for by a foundation, and we Missourians were told the contract would cost us nothing.
Well, that wasn't true.
CARES Act money - over $1 million of it - has been allocated to this group. They might be doing fine work, and I am personally a fan of General McChrystal, but I'm not sure why the government lied to us, why the initial services weren't enough to get us on our way, why we're still spending money on a consulting firm that actually recommends state employees take over their functions, why we have money for this but not for unemployment benefits, and why the Governor can't manage the government.
The Governor has delayed his response to my request, but don't worry. I'm still looking out for you.
