Greetings!

With 2020 shaping up to be the most consequential election in recent memory, Democrats across the country have real opportunities to make inroads in areas previously thought inaccessible. While out on the trail championing Democratic values and policies, candidates up and down the ballot can point to a dysfunctional White House as they ask their neighbors "Is that what you want for our town?"

In no place in New Jersey is this more prevalent than Morris County, which turns more Democratic by the day. Our local candidates have a strong shot at making major inroads this November, and opportunities to win seats they might otherwise not have.

While we have outstanding Democratic candidates running all across Morris County this year, the new normal associated with COVID-19 requires us to be even more targeted than in previous years as far as allocation of resources.

Therefore, after reviewing responses to our 2020 Candidate Survey, the Morris County Young Democrats are proud to endorse the following candidates for the upcoming November elections:
Cara Parmigiani
Candidate for Morris Plains Council

Cara has the experience, creativity, and work ethic needed to maintain Morris Plains' characteristic charm while fostering the growth of small businesses in Morris Plains.
As a third-generation small-business owner and the mother of a toddler, she intimately understands the concerns and needs of the many young families who call Morris Plains their home.
An attorney by trade, she has experience dealing with municipal governments, appearing before municipal and county planning and zoning boards, and serving on an affordable housing advisory committee. She has previously represented the Borough residents in opposing a development that was against the "health, safety, and welfare" of the community, and also helped provide a vision for Morris Plains for the next 10 years through her efforts on a steering committee providing feedback for the Borough's Master Plan re-examination. Cara is committed to her community and looks forward to joining the Council.
Amalia Duarte
Mendham Borough Committeewoman

"It has been a pleasure to serve on the Mendham Township Committee, and I would be honored to continue in a second term. I want to build on my track record of successfully bringing new ideas to the table and working in a bipartisan manner to get them implemented. I have expanded communications with residents, through Office Hours at Town Hall, launched a town-wide newsletter, and post frequent updates on social media. I have advocated for investing in our parks, trails, playgrounds, and swimming pond. I launched a Marketing Communications Committee that is creating a plan to promote Mendham to new families and counter the trend of declining property values. I wrote an ordinance to add student representatives to several sub-committees to give young people a voice in our local government. I have saved taxpayer money by declining to take a Township Committee salary in 2018, 2019, and 2020. And, I have cut costs for homeowners by initiating a program for Mendham to join an Energy Co-Operative
to purchase electricity at rates below what JCP&L charges. Finally, I believe the Township Committee should promote the values of inclusion and recognize that diversity makes us stronger. For that reason, I spearheaded passage of a Welcoming Proclamation and recognizing June as Pride Month."
Mayor Cathy Wilson & Bud Ravitz
Candidates for Morris Township Committee

Mayor Cathy Wilson and Bud Ravitz will build on the progress of the last three years of governance under Democratic leadership in the areas of open communication with township residents, being good stewards of our environment as they ensure the township is prepared for the debilitating effects of climate change by becoming certified green and ensuring smart growth and development. They will also focus on continuing to provide the excellent services township residents now enjoy while being very judicious in how tax dollars will be spent. Extraordinary times require extraordinary leadership, and Mayor Wilson and Bud Ravitz have the experience and vision to get the job done.
Kate Barry & Amanda Richardson
Candidates for Harding Township Committee

Kate Barry is a third-generation Harding Township resident. She has a Masters degree in Environment and Sustainable Development from University College London and has worked with New Jersey League of Conservation Voters, New York League of Conservation Voters, DH Infrastructure, and Weichert, Realtors. She currently runs her own animal care business in Harding Township and serves on the township’s Environmental Commission and the Board of the Great Swamp Watershed Association. She considers it an honor to be running for Township Committee in her hometown. She is excited to be part of a ticket that would elect the first Millennials to Harding's local office and is grateful for the support of the Morris County Young Democrats!
------------------------------------------------------------
Amanda Richardson grew up in Harding and moved back almost six years ago to start a family with her husband, Matt. A graduate of Columbia Law School, she has been practicing law for the past ten years. Five years ago she co-founded a non-profit organization, Resource Equity, with a mission of empowering women internationally, in countries like Uganda, India, Kosovo, and Peru, and this year she became the executive director of a non-profit that strengthens communities through journalism and civic engagement, the Corporation for New Jersey Local Media. In her career, Amanda has worked with volunteers, with women, and with communities to ensure that women’s rights are realized at the local level. She has also worked with national governments, civil society organizations, and international organizations to help craft laws and regulations that represent women’s interests. She currently works with communities, advocates, and journalists to preserve local news and to increase civic engagement.

Amanda says: "I'm running because I know how wonderful this community is, and I am now in a position to give back. My background as a lawyer and the leader of two organizations gives me the managerial and administrative skills to help our town and proficiency with writing and interpreting laws and regulations. I have experience communicating in plain language with people about what those laws and regulations mean, and learning from residents what they need and want from their government."
Len Resto & Frank Truilo
Candidates for Chatham Borough Council

Len Resto has been active in Chatham since moving from Bayonne 25 years ago, with eight of those years served in non-consecutive terms on the Borough Council. Upon rejoining the Council in 2020, Len became chair of the Econominc Development Advisory Committee. In that role, he has sought ways to position Chatham for its next phase by attracting high-tech companies to the Borough, ever mindful of the historic past that keeps Chatham the charming town that attracted him all those years ago.
------------------------------------------------------------
Frank Truilo grew up in Providence and become interested in public service while studying architecture. From 1980 to 1987, he served as a Planning Commissioner in New Providence before marrying his hometown sweetheart and relocating to Robbinsville. There, he served on the Planning Board for another four years. Frank and his wife moved to Chatham in 1996 and in 2003 he founded his own architecture practice. As a 24 year resident of the Borough, and as a small business owner, Frank will work to ensure the Borough's aesthetic is not compromised while continuing to work for an even brighter economic future.
All of these candidates are committed to fighting racial injustice, addressing climate change, and ensuring adequate local responses to COVID-19 within their communities.

The MCYD will be text banking for our endorsed candidates in the month of October, as well as highlighting them on our social media platforms.

On to victory!

Sincerely,
The Morris County Young Democrats
