Remembering the Victims of the Attacks on September 11, 2001
Nineteen years ago, our nation was attacked by terrorists who wanted to destroy our country and everything it stands for. The way we responded – with courage, strength, and patriotism – proved why America is the greatest country on earth.
We will never forget those we lost in the attack or those who sacrificed their lives to save others. September 11, 2001, and the days following, demonstrated the full strength and bravery of the American people and proved that our spirit will never be broken. I will continue to pray for the nearly 3,000 innocent men, women and children who lost their lives on that tragic day, and for their families and loved ones. Click here to view my 9/11 tribute.
Hosting an Economic Recovery Roundtable
I recently hosted an Economic Recovery Roundtable in New Orleans to highlight several success stories of local small businesses that have adapted to manufacture PPE and other critical supplies in response to the COVID-19 pandemic in Louisiana. We must bring our medical supply chain and manufacturing back from China, and it was great to hear from these business leaders on ways we can position Louisiana to capitalize on future economic and job opportunities.

Joining Energy Secretary Dan Brouillette in Louisiana
This week, I joined U.S. Department of Energy Secretary Dan Brouillette and leaders from Entergy to discuss their work to restore power in communities across Southwest Louisiana impacted by Hurricane Laura. The U.S. Department of Energy and Entergy leaders ensured their commitment towards rebuilding the electric system in Southwest Louisiana until all communities have their power safely restored. Entergy provides continuous storm restoration and recovery updates on their Hurricane Laura information website here.

Community Updates
- Support for LA Nursing Homes: Recently, the Trump Administration announced $51.6 million in CARES Act funding for 275 nursing homes in Louisiana to support increased testing, staffing, and PPE needs. The science and data have proven that our seniors in nursing homes are the most vulnerable to COVID deaths, and this funding will save lives by protecting residents and health care workers on the front lines of the fight against this pandemic.
- Securing PPE: As of September 6, FEMA, HHS and the private sector coordinated delivery of or are currently shipping: 235.8 million N95 masks, 1.1 billion surgical and procedural masks, 43.8 million eye and face shields, 416 million gowns and coveralls and over 26.5 billion gloves.
- Economic Recovery: The U.S. economy gained nearly 1.4 million jobs in August, making it the fourth month in a row of over 1 million jobs added. In August, 249,000 retail, 174,000 leisure and hospitality, and 45,000 manufacturing and construction jobs were added. Also, Treasury Secretary Mnuchin recently testified that the Paycheck Protection Program contributed to adding nine million jobs in just three months.
