More than 100,000 Alabamians work in low-wage jobs without health insurance. They work at child care centers, construction sites, restaurants, retail stores and so many other places. They’re the folks who keep our state going. These are the workers trapped in Alabama’s health coverage gap. Many of their employers don’t offer coverage, and other options aren’t affordable. They also earn too much to qualify for Alabama Medicaid. As a result, many struggle with health problems that sap productivity, add household stress and get worse without timely care. Alabama Arise has released two new infographics that show the top 10 industries employing the largest number of men and women caught in the coverage gap.
