ad – challenging my independence and 10 year record of accomplishments in
education. For someone who is nothing more than a silent spectator in
supporting our local schools -- his attacks are particularly ironic and ring
hollow.

For the past ten years – eight years on the school board and two years as your
State Representative, I’ve been a tireless advocate for our kids, our schools
and for better education for all children in Oregon. The truth:

Funding: I delivered the biggest K-12 education budget in state history for
Bend La-Pine schools. And when our district was facing budget cuts due to the
economic crisis, I voted to direct $400 million from the state rainy day fund
to protect school budgets across the state -- and here in Bend.

Graduation: While graduation rates were stagnant across the state, I joined
with local educators and fellow members to help raise local high school
graduation rates by 10%.

Overcrowding: I helped secure voter-approval to build 4 new schools to help
relieve classroom overcrowding. When our kids return to classroom learning,
they will experience the difference.

Safety: Prioritizing student safety and security, I helped deliver new safety
entrances for 22 schools across our district. 

*
Sustainability: To protect our environment, I worked to replace dirty diesel
engine school buses with cleaner burning fuels.
