Older garage doors, driveway gates and parking barriers may use fixed-code radio frequency (RF) systems that transmit the same digital signal every time they open. That signal can potentially be captured with inexpensive RF equipment and replayed later to gain unauthorized access. Check the age and model of your gate or garage-door opener and ask your installer whether it uses fixed-code, rolling-code or encrypted technology. If it relies on an older fixed-code system, consider upgrading rather than assuming a functioning remote means the system is secure. Also remove or disable lost remotes promptly and periodically review who has active access.

*Use a Router With Parental Controls

A router with built-in parental controls lets you manage internet access across devices connected to your home Wi-Fi from one central place. Depending on the system, parents can block inappropriate websites, create age-appropriate filters, pause internet access, establish bedtimes and screen-time limits, and review which devices are connected to the network. Create separate profiles for each child so restrictions can match their age and needs, and protect the router’s administrator account with a strong, unique password. Remember that router controls generally apply only while a device is using your home network, so phones using cellular data may require additional device-level parental controls.

Far-Right 9/11 "Crusader March" Descends Into Violence

Far-right activist Jake Lang led roughly 100 demonstrators in what he called a “Crusader March” in Lower Manhattan on Sept. 11, coinciding with the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. According to the New York Post, marchers carried signs declaring “Deport All Muslims” and broadly blaming Islam for the 2001 terrorist attacks.

The march drew about 40 counterprotesters, including anti-racist demonstrators and a separate group of neo-Nazis who opposed Lang and displayed a banner targeting him for being Jewish. Video cited by the Post showed members of that group giving Nazi salutes. Physical confrontations broke out, and Emmanuel Vasquez Rodriguez, 22, of Queens, was arrested for allegedly striking a marcher with a closed fist.

During the nearby 9/11 commemoration, the son of victim Michael Massaroli used his remarks to condemn invoking the attacks to promote hatred. “You do my dad’s legacy and the legacy of all these victims no honor by using this tragedy to spread hate,” he said, adding that he had spent 25 years seeing people use 9/11 to hate Muslims and people who “don’t look like them.” *READ MORE ( [link removed] )*

California Man Sentenced to Three Years for Assaulting Federal Officer at Anti-ICE Protest

Elpidio Reyna, 42, of Compton, Calif., was sentenced Sept. 11 to three years in federal prison for assaulting a federal officer during a June 7, 2025, protest against an immigration enforcement operation near a Home Depot in Paramount. Reyna pleaded guilty Feb. 17 to assault on a federal officer with a deadly or dangerous weapon resulting in bodily injury.

According to his plea agreement, Reyna set objects on fire in the street and threw rocks at a convoy carrying U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers. One rock struck a government vehicle, shattering glass that cut an officer’s forehead. Prosecutors said Reyna described his actions as “sudden and emotional and fueled by alcohol” and stemming from anger over U.S. immigration policy.

After the FBI released images of the suspected assailant, investigators identified Reyna but were unable to locate him and determined he had fled to Mexico, according to the FBI. Mexican authorities initially detained him in Sinaloa, and after a negotiated surrender, FBI agents arrested him July 23, 2025, at the San Ysidro Port of Entry in San Diego. Maryland Man, Radicalized as a Teen, Arrested at Airport on His Way to Join ISIS

Michael “Teekaye” Junior, a Howard County, Md., man, was arrested in 2024 at Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport while attempting to leave the United States. The FBI said Junior had self-radicalized online and tried to travel to Africa to join a terrorist group, seeking guidance and logistical support from ISIS operatives.

According to the FBI, investigators obtained social media posts showing Junior firing an assault rifle at a Severn gun range and Instagram images in which he claimed he was training and displayed a machete. The FBI said he attempted to purchase a 9mm assault rifle but could not because he was on probation for disorderly conduct. Junior eventually shared his plans with an undercover officer and conducted online searches for Jewish people and institutions to target in Columbia, Md.

The FBI said it had intervened during Junior’s teenage years by interviewing him and his parents and enrolling him in a deradicalization program. After his arrest, investigators said his phone showed that he had instead changed tactics to conceal his intentions. Recorded statements captured Junior saying imprisonment would not deter him from future jihadist violence. Following his prison term, he will be subject to lifetime federal supervised release; the FBI said there had been no immediate threat of an attack in Maryland during its investigation. *READ MORE ( [link removed] )*

Pennsylvania Man Charged After FBI Suspects ISIS-Inspired Attack Plan

Jonathan Kramer of Valencia, Pa., was arrested outside a hotel in Cranberry, where he had allegedly paid cash for a weeklong stay. According to the criminal complaint, searches of Kramer’s hotel room and home uncovered a semiautomatic rifle, loaded rifle magazines, a rifle scope, boxes of ammunition, 30 knives and a note telling people not to look for him.

The FBI said investigators also discovered social media correspondence that led them to believe Kramer was planning an attack in support of ISIS.

Kramer was charged with one count of receiving or transferring a firearm or ammunition while knowing or having reasonable cause to believe it would be used to commit a felony or federal crime of terrorism. *READ MORE ( [link removed] )*

Tucson Police Identify Gay Bar Shooting as Anti-LGBTQ+ Hate Crime

Tucson police said Ousman Ceesay, 44, fatally shot Vincent Anthony Siqueiros, 42, and Cameron Davis Capara, 33, outside Venture-N, a gay bar in Tucson, Ariz., early Aug. 31 before shooting himself. Siqueiros and Capara died at the scene; Ceesay died at a hospital. Police said there was no apparent connection between Ceesay and the victims.

Police said Ceesay was carrying a list of LGBTQ+ businesses, and a search of his home uncovered evidence that he acted alone and that the shooting was a “targeted attack motivated by hate toward the LGBTQIA+ community.” Investigators said Ceesay apparently had recently arrived in Tucson and never entered the bar.

Police said Ceesay allegedly used a 9 mm handgun, which was recovered at the scene along with shell casings. Authorities said there was no indication of an ongoing threat, while police increased their presence around LGBTQ+ establishments and contacted businesses found on Ceesay’s list. Massachusetts Man Charged in Alleged Racist Attack at Gas Station

Gary Phillipo II, 46, of Carver, Mass., faces hate crime and assault charges after allegedly attacking a Black man outside a Cumberland Farms in Kingston on Sept. 8. Police said the victim was standing near the gas pumps when Phillipo began yelling racial slurs, then charged at and assaulted him without provocation.

The victim suffered multiple injuries, including a suspected compound fracture. Police said witnesses corroborated his account, and surveillance video obtained from the store appeared to support investigators’ findings.

Phillipo was charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury, assault and battery to intimidate resulting in bodily injury as a hate crime, and disturbing the peace. Police said that after being taken to a hospital for an injury, he also allegedly yelled profanity and racial slurs and made sexual comments to hospital staff. *Pennsylvania Middle School Investigates Report That Gun Would Be Brought to Campus*

Ridley Middle School in Ridley Park, Pa., notified families Sept. 10 that it had received a warning that a gun would be brought to school the following day. The report came through both the Safe2Say Something platform and a parent Facebook group.

Principal John Theodosiades said the school was taking the report seriously and working with authorities to address the situation. He asked families to discourage students from spreading rumors or repeating unverified information and warned that making threats, even as a joke, carries serious consequences.

Theodosiades did not disclose additional details about the reported threat, including who may have made it or whether a specific individual had been identified. He said the school would provide additional information as facts were verified. *READ MORE ( [link removed] )*

* Massachusetts Teen Arrested Following Online School Shooting Threat

Raynham, Mass., police arrested a 17-year-old boy Sept. 11 after the FBI alerted the department to alleged threats made through an online gaming platform. Police said the platform flagged two statements from a user in a game text chat, including threats to shoot and bomb a school.

The FBI provided information associated with the account, and Raynham officers identified a juvenile believed to be connected to it. Police said their investigation established probable cause for an arrest, but a preliminary investigation determined the threats were not credible. No weapons were found, and authorities said the teenager did not have access to weapons.

The teenager was charged with making a false bomb threat and was expected to be arraigned in Taunton Juvenile Court. Police notified the Bridgewater-Raynham Regional School District and said there was no known threat to the school community, although officers increased their presence at district schools as a precaution. *READ MORE ( [link removed] )*

*Chinese Bot Network Used Fake Cartoons and AI to Influence the Data Center Debate*

X said its safety team identified approximately 200,000 inauthentic Chinese accounts involved in online “influence operations,” with about 200 accounts posting in ways the platform said could manipulate legitimate debate over U.S. artificial intelligence and energy policy. The accounts promoted messages opposing AI and the data centers needed to support it.

According to X, posts claimed AI data centers were raising household electricity costs and straining the power grid, while other accounts circulated AI-generated cartoons portraying data center developers as profiting at the public’s expense. X characterized the activity as an attempt to influence an ongoing American policy debate rather than ordinary public opposition to data centers.

The article also reported that OpenAI earlier identified and banned a cluster of ChatGPT accounts it said likely originated in China and were being used to generate content for a covert influence operation primarily targeting U.S. audiences. That content similarly focused on claims that AI and data centers were increasing electricity demand and costs. Congress Examines Alleged Foreign Influence Networks Operating in U.S.

The House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on South and Central Asia scheduled a Sept. 15 hearing titled “Trojan Horses: Covert Foreign Malign Influence Operations in America” to examine how activists, nonprofits, media operations and social media influencers may advance the interests of foreign adversaries including China, Iran and Cuba. Subcommittee Chairman Bill Huizenga, R-Mich., alleged that adversarial governments use American social media influencers as proxies to promote their propaganda.

Fox News said its reporting has examined alleged foreign-influence networks involving political organizing, overseas travel, media operations and financial relationships. A five-part Fox News investigation analyzed 223 transactions totaling $591 million between 2017 and 2025 within a network connected to American-born technology entrepreneur Neville Roy Singham, who lives in Shanghai. Fox News reported that $278 million flowed from Singham into six nonprofit organizations that it characterized as disseminating pro-China and anti-American messaging.

Among those organizations was CodePink, co-founded by Singham’s wife, Jodie Evans. Fox News reported $1.33 million in Singham-linked funding to CodePink and described the group as supporting Cuba, China and Iran; CodePink and other organizations cited in the investigation have denied wrongdoing and characterized scrutiny of their activities as anti-communist “witch hunts.” Singham had not responded to Fox News’ repeated requests for comment. *READ MORE ( [link removed] )*
