Maid Marian Way
Works on Maid Marian Way to allow car park demolition

Initial works are into a second week as Homes England makes preparations to demolish the former NCP car park in Maid Marian Way.

The demolition programme is a vital step in clearing the way for the once-in-a-generation transformation of Broad Marsh, which will create new homes, workspaces and public spaces in the heart of the city.

It builds on the progress already made around the site, including the new Nottingham College hub, Central Library, bus station and Green Heart public realm. It comes as Homes England continues its search for a development partner and brings forward meanwhile uses to activate the site.

Works will include:


* Lane closures at the Castle Gate junction (lane two northbound and lane three southbound)
* Temporary four-way signals at the southern junction with Canal Street, Wilford Street and Castle Boulevard. Some pavements will be temporarily unavailable, but pedestrians will still be able to navigate the area. Cycle lanes will remain open, although cyclists will be asked to dismount for a short distance through the works

From the end of September, a contraflow system will be in place which will see traffic diverted from one side of Maid Marian Way to the other while the section of the car park that sits above the road is brought down.


Vehicles will initially move on to the northbound side of the road close to St Nic’s Church where a single lane will operate in each direction. From early to mid-November, this will switch to the southbound side of the road to allow demolition work to complete on the remainder of the NCP car park, and for works to start on the former college site.

A short period of highway reinstatement works will be carried out from the end of November to the start of December, when Maid Marian Way will fully reopen ahead of the Christmas period.

Bus stops in the immediate vicinity may be subject to temporary suspensions during the works, so customers are advised to check with their transport provider.

Mansfield Road
Mansfield Road resurfacing due to end next week

Essential reconstruction and resurfacing works are taking place on the inbound A60 Mansfield Road from next week.

The stretch affected is between the Goose Fair Island and Mapperley Road / Forest Road East.

As part of the scheme funded by the East Midlands Combined County Authority, and delivered by Nottingham City Council, overnight roadworks are taking place until Friday 25 September.

The road will be closed between 8pm and 6am while the improvements are carried out. There will be no overnight works this weekend (Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 September) and the scheme is expected to be completed by 6am on Friday 25 September.

During the closures, a diversion route along Gregory Boulevard, Alfreton Road, through the city centre via Upper Parliament Street, South Sherwood Street and Mansfield Road will be in place. Outbound traffic will not be affected however there will be lane restrictions in place alongside the works area.

Bus services into the city will be following diversion routes, therefore bus stops FO07, FO08, FO09, FO10, J1 and G3 will not be in operation during the hours stated. Outbound services are not affected.

Bus-lane improvements start in Meadows Way

A seven-week programme of works to improve bus reliability in Meadows Way is into its second week.

The works, at the junction of Meadows Way, Bathley Street and Arkwright Street, will reduce congestion, improve journey times and enhance facilities for pedestrians and cyclists while maintaining the benefits already delivered for local bus services. 

Nottingham City Council has secured funding from the Department for Transport to support the Greater Nottingham Bus Service Improvement Plan which aims to:


* improve the reliability and punctuality of local bus services
* encourage increased use of buses, which are key to providing access to jobs and opportunities, supporting local businesses and new housing developments
* reduce congestion on the road network.

Meadows Way is a very busy bus route and buses are experiencing delays heading towards the city centre.

To enable the works to be completed as quickly and safely as possible, Bathley Street is now closed at its junction with Arkwright Street for approximately seven weeks. A signed diversion route will be in place throughout the closure period.

A52
Closures to allow A52 junctions scheme

National Highways is continuing to prepare for its A52 Nottingham junctions scheme, which will deliver major improvements at Wheatcroft and Nottingham Knight.

To enable the main construction works, utility companies started diverting services at Wheatcroft junction earlier this month. These works are expected to continue for around 12 weeks with lane closures in place from Monday to Friday.

Here's what's happening:


* Monday 21 September (8am) to Friday 25 September (6pm): A section of Flawforth Lane where it joins the A52 at Wheatcroft Junction will be fully closed.

* Friday 25 September to Monday 28 September, 8pm to 6am each night: Part of the A52 (Gamston Link Road) at Wheatcroft Junction will be closed overnight. The road will reopen during the day between closures.

Signed diversion routes will be in place.

Traffic management, including lane closures and a temporary 40mph speed limit, will also be in place on sections of the A52 while work is carried out.

Colwick Road
Final phase of changes to support local bus services

We are now entering the final phase of construction in our project to improve Sneinton Hermitage and the Colwick Road bus corridor.

The existing road surface is currently being removed in preparation for the new surfacing. Subject to weather conditions, this will start on Monday (21 September) on one side of the road before moving to the opposite side on Tuesday (22 September).

To allow these works to be completed safely and efficiently, they will take place overnight between 6.30pm and 6.00am. While some activities will inevitably generate noise, the noisiest operations will be completed by 10pm.

The newly-laid surface will then be left undisturbed overnight to allow it to properly set before traffic is reintroduced. This approach will help ensure a durable, high-quality road surface for years to come.
