Dear Friend,

As October and Pregnancy & Infant Loss Awareness Month approach, I want to begin with a few numbers. Because behind every number is a baby. A family. A story. A name that matters.

Pregnancy and infant loss touches more families than many of us realize.
  • About 1 in 10 known pregnancies ends in early pregnancy loss.
  • Approximately 80% of pregnancy losses occur during the first trimester.
  • About 1 in 175 births in the United States is affected by stillbirth.
  • Approximately 21,000 babies are stillborn in the United States each year.
  • More than 20,000 babies in the United States die before their first birthday each year.
Those numbers are difficult to read. But at No Foot Too Small, we know something even more important: Every number represents a family whose life was forever changed.

In just a few weeks, communities across Iowa and around the country will recognize October as Pregnancy & Infant Loss Awareness Month.

For the families we serve, October is more than a month of awareness.
It is a time to remember.
A time to say their babies' names.
A time to celebrate lives that were far too short but will never be forgotten.

And a time for all of us to ask an important question:

What can we do beyond being aware?

At No Foot Too Small, we believe awareness should lead to action. Families experiencing pregnancy and infant loss deserve compassionate care in the hospital, meaningful support when they return home, opportunities to honor and remember their babies, and a community that reminds them they do not have to walk this journey alone.

That is why No Foot Too Small exists.

And this fall, there are four meaningful ways you can turn awareness into action.

💎JOIN THE GEM CLUB
We are excited to introduce the GEM Club — Give Every Month, No Foot Too Small's new community of monthly donors.

Recurring gifts provide dependable support that allows us to serve families, grow programs, strengthen hospital partnerships, and continue building a future where compassionate bereavement care is the standard—not the exception.

Whether it's $12, $25, $50 or another amount meaningful to you, your gift becomes part of something much bigger.

☘️JOIN US AT THE GALA, OCTOBER 17
Our 13th Annual No Foot Too Small Gala will bring together hundreds of families, friends, businesses, and supporters at the Hyatt Regency Coralville. It is one of my favorite nights of the year.

Yes, it is a beautiful evening. But it is so much more than an event.

It is a room filled with people choosing to turn compassion into action and helping us Celebrate Angels. Unite Families. Build Birthing & Bereavement Suites.

The funds raised help us support families, expand our reach, strengthen hospital and community partnerships, and continue changing the standard of care surrounding pregnancy and infant loss.

🕯️WAVE OF LIGHT, OCTOBER 15
On October 15, families around the world will participate in the Wave of Light, lighting candles at 7:00 p.m. local time in remembrance of babies lost during pregnancy or infancy. We invite you to join us in this beautiful act of remembrance.

Light a candle. Say their name. Share their story. Remember with us.

SHARE CELEBRATING ANGELS
Sometimes one of the most meaningful ways to support a grieving family is simply to acknowledge that their baby existed and that their story matters.

Our book, Celebrating Angels, shares stories of love, loss, hope, and remembrance while reminding families that they are not alone.

Purchase a copy for yourself. Give one to someone you love. Share it with a family experiencing loss. Or help us introduce this resource to someone who may need it.
However you choose to participate; by joining the GEM Club, attending the Gala, lighting a candle, sharing Celebrating Angels, or simply telling someone about our mission, you are helping create a community where families experiencing pregnancy and infant loss are seen, supported, and remembered.

Awareness starts the conversation. Action changes what comes next.

Thank you for standing beside our families, saying their babies' names, and helping us celebrate every angel.

With Gratitude,
Robin
P.S. You don't have to choose just one way to make a difference. Join the GEM Club today, light a candle with us on October 15, and celebrate alongside us at the Gala on October 17. Every action helps ensure families experiencing pregnancy and infant loss know they are not alone.
