WE WON! The proposed $5,000 Veterans’ Health Cap has been
scrapped! 🥳
Can you believe it?
Today, the Minister announced that the proposed cap has been
scrapped. Veterans can finally breathe a sigh of relief as this
ill-considered and dangerous policy is consigned to the dustheap.
This is your win. Without your support, and investment in this
campaign it would not have happened.
John, I cannot say this clearly enough. Thank you!
You stood with our veterans and told the Government, “NO! This is
not good enough.”
Please take the time to celebrate – tell someone you know this
happened and that you played a part in pushing Australia in the
right direction.
This was a dangerous policy that needed to be thrown out. By
getting rid of it, we have saved lives.
Since the Government announced the cap, I’ve had hundreds of
veterans contact my office, telling me about the devastating
impact it would have on them.
We ask people to put their lives on the line for our country,
with the promise we will look after them when they come home, to
then turn around and tell them that care stops once they hit an
arbitrary $5,000 limit, was a betrayal of the worst order!
This cap was cruel, it was dangerous and it should never have
been announced in the first place.
I’m relieved that the Government has finally listened and
scrapped it and I thank them for doing so.

But there is one hurdle left.

The government only listened because of your support.
You and 34,000 other people had the guts and the passion to take
a stand. You knew what this cap could mean for our most
vulnerable veterans, and you fought like hell to make sure it
didn’t go ahead.
Now we need to make sure this never happens again.
I wrote a bill that would do exactly that.
It passed the Senate today. The Government didn’t vote for it.
Now it goes to the House of Representatives. If it passes there,
veterans will never have to worry about their healthcare being
capped again.
John, you have already invested so much in this
campaign. Will you stand with me one more time as we fight to
convince the Government to pass my bill into law?

My bill is called the Military Rehabilitation & Compensation
Amendment (Veterans’ Healthcare Without Caps) 2026.
It would prevent limits being imposed on:
* the cost of individual treatments
* total treatment costs during a particular period
* the number of treatments available for service-related
injuries.
And this goes beyond allied health.
The protections can apply to medical specialists, hospital and
rehabilitation services, mental health professionals and other
treatment for service-related injuries.
We must get this legislated.
We shouldn’t have to fight this battle all over again because the
next Minister comes along and decides that maybe a cap is a good
idea after all.
