Redistricting handed me one of the most interesting assignments in politics: my district now includes tens of thousands of people I've never represented before — including communities like Huntington Beach that have never had a representative like me.

I love this assignment. I came to this country as a five-year-old immigrant, and I've spent my career proving that showing up and listening beats writing people off. I intend to knock on doors in every one of these new neighborhoods.

But I have to be honest with you about a problem: the outreach plan that makes all of that possible was built on our August fundraising goal, and we just missed it — by $12,000.
