EMET APPLAUDS THE TRUMP ADMINISTRATION FOR ACHIEVING YET ANOTHER HISTORIC PEACE DEAL, BETWEEN ISRAEL AND BAHRAIN

(Washington, D.C., September 11, 2020) On Friday, September 11, 2020, Israel and Bahrain reached an historic peace deal that will lead to full normalization of diplomatic relations between the two Middle Eastern nations. President Donald Trump and other White House officials assisted in brokering yet another peace agreement in less than 30 days. This peace agreement follows the recent announcement from August 13 of the normalization of relations between Israel and the United Arab Emirates.

In a statement by the Israeli Prime Minister’s Office, Benjamin Netanyahu said, “It took us 26 years to go from a second peace agreement with an Arab state to a third, but 29 days, not 26 years, to go from a peace agreement with the third Arab state to the fourth Arab state." He continued, "And there will be more. This is a new era of peace.”

Jared Kushner, Senior Advisor to the president called the agreement "a historic breakthrough for the president and also for the world and for those two countries. On the anniversary of 9/11. That is the best thing that we can do to prevent another 9/11 from ever happening is to create peace and to aggressively counter extremism and terrorism. And President Trump is spared no effort in doing that."

"There's a new momentum and new hopefulness in the Middle East," said Kushner. "The agreement that we made with the United Arab Emirates and Israel was even more popular than we expected, which is why this next agreement came so quickly. We were not sure what the reaction would be, but it's been overwhelmingly positive. And more and more countries are rushing to try to figure out how they can do good things for their citizens and create a paradigm for a much more peaceful and prosperous future."

EMET is profoundly grateful to all parties involved for having the courage and vision to move forward with yet another momentous agreement. Peace in the Middle East can only be achieved if there is mutual respect and shared vision for a peaceful future between the nations that reside there. EMET is glad to see that the previous agreement brokered by the White House between the United Arab Emirates and Israel has in fact resulted in a domino effect of other countries in the region stepping forward to normalize relations. We hope to see many more positive examples of this chain reaction.

Through brokering two historic peace agreements between Israel and the Arab world, President Trump has undoubtedly earned his two nominations for the 2021 Nobel Peace Prize. We would like to congratulate the President on his nomination and commend him for his efforts in bringing peace to a region which for decades has been stagnant and entrenched in wars and violence.

Says President and Founder of EMET, Sarah Stern, “We are absolutely delighted to learn the news today that Bahrain is going to be normalizing ties with the state of Israel, and will participate in the White House Peace ceremony scheduled for this Tuesday. This is yet another indication of the blossoming of warm relations between Israel and the Sunni Gulf states, that had up until now been, “under the table.” It shows that these Arab partners understand and appreciate that the Jewish state is not going anywhere, that Israel is here to stay; that they have a tremendous amount that they can share and learn from Israel, in terms of high tech, cybersecurity, water irrigation and agriculture, and most particularly in the age of COVID-19, medicine. And Israel will certainly profit from the Gulf Arab states tremendous wealth and a shared interest in defeating their common threat: Iran. Beyond that, we are delighted because it has taken away the power of the Palestinian issue and their rejection of
Israel’s right to exist to serve as a unified wedge against the existence of Israel, which they have done since Israel’s inception in 1948 up until now. We are so grateful to the Trump administration for their arduous efforts to bring peace to the region, and for realizing that the same, old, tired, conventional path to peace wasn’t working, and for having the wisdom to try an alternative path.”
