Dear Friend,

Today is a day of celebration for our organization—our Annual Celebration for the Environment, our biggest fundraising event and party of the year. But it’s hard to feel like celebrating right now when our state is battling a devastating and unprecedented wildfire emergency. Massive wildfires are burning uncontained across Oregon. People have lost their homes and property, and some have lost their lives. Many more have been evacuated and are displaced while we are still in the middle of a pandemic.

At times like this, even though it would be easy to give up and lose hope, we simply can’t. This is why we do the work that we do to protect Oregon’s people and places and fight for our environment. We know climate change is real. But today we can see it, smell it, feel it. It’s not too late to make a difference and preserve our way of life for future generations of Oregonians. We have to keep fighting for climate action and electing folks to office who will fight with us.

Below is the email that we had originally planned to send out today. If you are able to, I hope that you will join us tonight for our Annual Celebration for the Environment and support our work at a time when protecting our environment seems more important than ever.

Be safe,

Doug Moore, Executive Director OLCV
