National: A More Perfect Union 📜
We the People of the United States have experienced unrivaled liberties guaranteed by the Constitution which was signed on September 17, 1787. Now, more than ever, we must remember its importance.
As we approach Constitution Day, we will discuss important questions surrounding our governing document with experts from around the nation. Check out the events coming up next week.
Government overreach is going around - the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) targeted Jordan and Mayra Eads in 2017 with an unconstitutional lawsuit. Recently, the Texas Public Policy Foundation prevailed in a counter lawsuit against DFPS.
“Not only have Mr. and Mrs. Eads been vindicated, but the court’s judgment will provide stronger protections for parents in these types of lawsuits brought by Child Protective Services,” says TPPF’s General Counsel Robert Henneke. “Filing a lawsuit against parents accusing them of abusing their children is a severe allegation and one that the Department should not make lightly. Yet, that was exactly what DFPS did here, and then tried to run from its own lawsuit when our clients fought back. After nearly three years of litigation, Mayra and Jordan Eads finally have their names cleared.”
Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson proposed cutting "bloated" city salaries - pointing out that the City Manager makes $406,850 per year (more than the President of the United States....) He proposed using the salary cuts to enhance public safety by bolstering the police department in a sensible way, fix broken streets and traffic signals, or a property tax rate reduction.
Unfortunately, this bit of good governance was shut down by the Dallas City Council who showed ZERO support for the measure. Now, while many Texas families have been forced to cut their budgets, city government don't believe they should do the same.
