One year ago today, on September 17, 2025, I made the tough decision to walk away from 30 years in Tejano music to run for Congress in TX-15. This was a district Trump won by 18 points in 2024. Now, with less than 50 days left, we’ve defied the odds and are leading Monica De La Cruz by 6 points. After my announcement, my opponent took a jab at my career. She said I should “stick to quinceañeras.” A lot of Democratic insiders didn’t give me a second glance either. But I knew my community needed a voice in Washington, not someone who shows up every two years to get votes, then ignores us. So I worked hard, and campaigned my way. BBQs in people’s backyards, ranch halls, going door to door, and yes, performing at quinceañeras. When the primary came around, I won nearly two-thirds of the vote. But the election experts still counted me out, rating the race anywhere from Lean Republican to Likely Republican in July. I kept going around the district anyway, having conversations with neighbors no matter who they voted for. They wanted someone who’d fight for this community in D.C., who’d bring people together, who’d actually listen to their concerns. I showed them I could be that person. One year later, I’m polling ahead of my opponent by 6 points, and my race is the one that could decide control of Congress. That kind of shift only happens when you’ve built a people-powered movement. Like the Texas Longhorns against the number 1 ranked football team in the country, we’ve shown that we can come from behind and win. I may not run a typical campaign, but I’m not a typical politician either. All I know is the unity I’ve seen when we’re all singing and dancing together. It’s hard to believe this campaign will be coming to a close soon, but with hard work and enough grassroots support, our next stop will be Washington. We’re building a movement that will last for generations here in South Texas, but I can’t pull this thing off on my own. Will you donate now to help us win TX-15 and the House for Democrats? Thanks for everything. Gracias por todo. — Bobby |
