The Claremont Institute invites you to celebrate Constitution Day Constitution Day Virtual Celebration Thursday, September 17th, 2020 10:00am – 12:45pm PT The Claremont Institute invites you to celebrate Constitution Day with Dr. John Eastman and our Center for Constitutional Jurisprudence. We will be commemorating the 233rd anniversary of the signing of the U.S. Constitution with two panel discussions addressing some of the most pressing threats to our constitutional system. Due to the current restrictions on public events in California in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, our Constitution Day event will be virtual-only. We are conducting the event using Zoom, an online webinar service, and registration is required to attend each panel. Register Panel 1 – “COVID and the Constitution” – 10:00am – 11:15am PT What should we think about the broad delegations of power from legislatures to executives to implement new and draconian rules in response to COVID-19? Those delegations were designed to meet temporary emergencies—that is, things that had to be addressed before the legislature could act. But they are now being used to avoid legislative accountability altogether, and not just for a short-term response, but for the long haul. And it has extended beyond elected governors, to unelected health officials as well.
