The Pope was continuing a series of catecheses on Vatican II and turned to the document Gaudium et Spes, quoting its list of things that are certainly shameful: everything that is opposed to life itself, such as any kind of homicide, genocide, abortion, euthanasia, and even voluntary suicide; everything that violates the integrity of the human person, such as mutilations, tortures inflicted on body and mind, psychological coercion; and everything that offends human dignity. By placing abortion alongside genocide as acts against life itself, Leo restated the Church's position that abortion is not a private medical option. He tied that judgment directly to political discernment, saying social programs should be measured by whether they protect the dignity of the human person and the common good. He also warned that technology and artificial intelligence risk making relationships increasingly less personal and that people may grow accustomed to delegating to algorithms decisions that belong to human conscience. His encyclical Magnifica Humanitas states that AI threatens to normalize an anti-human vision and that a crisis in our relationship with life leads us to treat limits such as illness, old age, and suffering primarily as defects to be corrected rather than as realities through which humanity matures. That is not a hedge. That is not a pastoral nuance. That is the plain teaching of Scripture and of the Church, stated without qualification, tied directly to political evaluation. Leo said out loud what the Church is supposed to say: that political programs should be judged by whether they protect the dignity of the human person. Every politician who calls himself Christian while funding abortion should read this statement. Every voter who calls himself Christian should use it as the standard Pope Leo said it was meant for. Give thanks for Pope Leo XIV's clarity on this statement and pray that it would reach the politicians and voters who need to hear it. A Judge Just Blocked the State From Giving Her Testosterone. The Next Hearing Is October 29. | Joseph and Arlene Kutzko, a Massachusetts family, have not spoken to their teenage daughter Sophie since late 2024, when the Massachusetts Department of Children and Families took custody of her after a dispute over her gender identity. The Kutzkos allege a school counselor at Algonquin Regional High School had already begun socially transitioning Sophie without their knowledge before reporting the family to child services. The family says the conflict erupted when they refused, on the basis of their Christian faith, to affirm Sophie as a boy. DCF now holds guardianship, and a permanent restraining order prohibits the parents and their older son from contacting her. Attorney Vernadette Broyles, representing the family, described what she called a direct school-to-DCF pipeline, in which school policies refuse to inform parents when a child rejects their biological sex and claims another identity, and the school then uses DCF to enforce the child's new identity over parental objection. On Friday, a judge temporarily blocked state officials from administering a high dose of testosterone to Sophie. The next hearing is scheduled for October 29. DCF did not respond to requests for comment. Algonquin Regional High School also did not comment on the family's allegations. Her Future Is Uncertain. | Ruth Wang, a partner at VDoor Law Firm in Beijing, has escaped to Taiwan with her husband and two children after Chinese authorities pressured the firm to dissolve rather than continue representing pastors from Zion Church, one of China's largest house church congregations. Wang had been part of the legal team representing Pastor Ezra Jin and other detained members of Zion Church since October 2025, when Chinese authorities arrested 18 members of the congregation in one of the largest crackdowns on a single church in decades. Trump raised Jin's case with President Xi Jinping in a May meeting, and Jin was released in July after nine months in custody. Eight other Zion Church leaders remain detained. Chinese authorities told VDoor's lawyers to stop handling Zion Church cases and leave the firm. The firm's founder, Zhang Kai, lost his law license and was barred from leaving the country. Other lawyers were suspended from practice for six months. Wang said officials phoned her last month while she was in Japan and asked to meet. She declined to return to Beijing. She is now in Taiwan, where authorities have provided temporary housing on humanitarian grounds, but Taiwan's rules limit its ability to grant formal asylum to people from mainland China. Wang is exploring resettlement in the United States or Canada. Her future remains uncertain. Bob Fu of ChinaAid said Wang's case illustrates the pressure Chinese authorities apply to lawyers who defend persecuted Christians. Human Rights Watch reported that more than a dozen Chinese cities introduced reward programs in the first half of this year for citizens who report illegal religious activity. She was a lawyer doing her job: representing people arrested for worshipping Jesus. For that, she was told to stop, watched her firm get dismantled, saw her mentor lose his law license and his freedom to leave the country, and ultimately had to flee with her children to an island that cannot formally grant her asylum. The Chinese Communist Party does not just imprison Christians. It removes the legal infrastructure that might defend them. That is systematic and intentional. Twelve-plus Chinese cities are now paying citizens to report on their neighbors' religious activity. This is not background noise. It is a campaign. Pray for Ruth Wang and her family, for a safe and stable path to resettlement. Pray for Zhang Kai, VDoor's founder, who is still inside China without his law license and unable to leave. Pray for the eight Zion Church leaders still in detention. And pray for the Trump administration to make the ongoing imprisonment of Chinese Christians a consistent and pressing diplomatic priority, not a one-time favor. |

Massachusetts tried to strip a fit Christian mother and father of their parental rights, silence them with a restraining order, and chemically alter their daughter's body against their will.
