Sandy Dahl was the widow of United Flight 93 captain Jason Dahl.

“I will not let Flight 93 go unrecognized or Jason be forgotten,” Dahl said in an interview shortly before the ten year anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.

In the years after the 9/11 attacks, Dahl dedicated considerable time to honoring the memory of her husband, establishing The Captain Jason Dahl Scholarship Fund ([link removed][UNIQID]) to help train young pilots.

** Day Laborer Outreach
------------------------------------------------------------

We want to give a shoutout and thank you to our Day Labor Outreach coordinator Osvaldo and to Tanya for spending their Saturday supporting our amazing day laborers who work tirelessly and don’t have the ease to celebrate this holiday.

They were able to once again responsibly distribute care packages including lunches, hand sanitizer, socks, and also some much needed moral support. We are so grateful to them for work and taking the time to put these packages together, and promoting our culture of love and respect. There is still a low demand for work, and we have seen a significant drop in the amount of them waiting for day jobs. Day laborers’ source of income has suffered greatly with the reduction of traffic throughout home improvement stores, and throughout the county in general. We continue to try to find the best ways to support them wether it be through free remote legal clinics, or finding the most useful items to donate to them. Thanks to Osvaldo’s work on the field, we are able to better cater to the needs of our community, and they know that we will continue to adapt and find ways to better support our day laborers. We thank him for always approaching this community with care and respect, as well as advocating
for the needs of a community so beloved to us. We are especially grateful on this holiday dedicated to the American work force, that often overlooks such a critical part of our communities such as them.

Interested in donating? Visit our link in bio or email us at [email protected] to donate assembled care packages with: masks, neon tshirts and hand sanitizers. For more info or questions please feel free to email us!

** Shelter Aid
------------------------------------------------------------

This week we share another delicious dinner at Pro Amore Dei Shelter: Pozole! We are overjoyed our families have the comfort and peace of sharing another meal together, followed by some delicious treats and desserts!

We are so grateful for all of your generosity and support, as it is through you that we are able to make days like this possible. This shelter, like so many others we aid, thank you for helping them pay another month of rent, utilities, and groceries. Another one of our shelters was also able to buy home sanitation kits to stay safe and protected from COVID.

We can’t stress enough how much we miss going to Tijuana to visit and help all our migrant friends, but take comfort in receiving pics and updates of days like this one.

** Familias Reunidas
Bond Program
------------------------------------------------------------

We are so happy to share we have freed yet another person from detention through our Families Reunidas Bond Program, Evens . He is a Haitian asylum seeker who was in detention for 8 months. He was detained in the Otay Mesa Detention Center, which continues to have an extreme number of COVID cases, and even had a birthday and turned 22 years old while detained.

We continue to be frustrated to know such young individuals with their whole lives ahead of them continue to be treated unjustly and held for ransom in such terrible conditions. We find comfort knowing that Evens is now headed to Missouri and be reunited with his father and sponsor! We also want to say thank you to the Bay Area Immigration Bond Fund for assisting us in ensuring this man’s freedom. We wish him the best on his new life and journey ahead!

Let this story serve as a reminder of all the mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers and community members waiting in such conditions in detention, simply for seeking a place or a part in this country Evens represents so many others being subject to racist and inhumane policies, and we must not forget the urgency of getting everyone we can out of the Otay Mesa Detention Center. This pandemic continues to be unforgiving, and we will not allow any more lives lost. Again, we thank you for your support and ask you to continue to help us make sure our folks are #FreeAndAlive

** Green Cards for Kids
------------------------------------------------------------

With our new Green Cards for Kids program, we are so lucky to be able to work with immigration attorney Fabiola Navarro who will be representing these children.

It is crucial that we help these children as they have already suffered enough abuse, neglect and/or abandonment.

With your continued support, we can help pay for the legal representation these children deserve in this critical time of their lives.

Mayor Kevin Faulconer on Wednesday ordered that the more than 3,000 cameras installed on streetlights throughout San Diego be turned off until the city crafts an ordinance to govern surveillance technology."

ACLU backs campaign to end tech company contracts with immigration enforcement

By Chris Mills Rodrigo

"The American Civil Liberties Union on Wednesday threw its weight behind a campaign aimed at pressuring tech companies to stop selling products to immigration enforcement agencies.
