September is the start of our final official quarterly FEC deadline month. We’ve set our highest fundraising goals of the campaign, and we have to hit them if we want to win. There is no margin for error in a district as competitive as NY-17.
The reality is that Mike Lawler has more money than we do. Lots. And he’s using it to try and bury us with TV ads. And that’s before we get into the outside corporate PACs spending money on his behalf – or Elon Musk and Donald Trump pouring millions into this race.
We are going to be outspent. We do not need to match Republicans dollar-for-dollar, but when this FEC report comes out we need to show that we have the resources to fight back and get our message out to voters.
I come from a blue-collar family. After West Point, I spent 16 years in the Army, I did six tours overseas, and was the Director for Counterterrorism at the White House.
Asking for money doesn't come naturally to me. But I have to, if we’re going to meet these September goals.
This is a grassroots campaign – last quarter, 90% of contributions were less than $100. So when you see me and my team out there, please know: We’re only able to compete because of the response to emails like this one.
