Ed Sheeran Says Dropping Macklemore Wasn't His Decision. Then Four Supporting
Acts Quit the Tour.

Macklemore was removed from the remaining U.S. dates after stadium operators
objected to his pro-Palestinian remarks. Sheeran says the promoter made the
call. The dispute then widened as four other performers withdrew.

A disagreement over political speech on Ed Sheeran's Loop Tour has expanded
into a wider dispute involving an artist, the tour promoter, stadium operators
and several supporting performers.
Macklemore had been opening for Sheeran when he used his September 4
performance at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey to speak about Palestinians in
Gaza and the West Bank and told the crowd, “Free Palestine.”

Macklemore announced Monday that he had been removed from the remaining U.S.
dates. He said he and Sheeran had held several difficult conversations and
described the two artists as having reached a fundamental disagreement over how
publicly to address the conflict.

Macklemore's contract was with the promoter and that removing him from the tour
was Messina Touring Group's decision after pressure from venues.

That distinction changes the story. Sheeran was the tour's headline artist
and was involved in conversations about the controversy, but both his statement
and the promoter's account place the formal removal decision with the promoter
