Democrats,
We'll be direct: our voter protection program is underfunded, and the gap is showing up right when we can least afford it.
This isn't one bad actor or one bad headline. It's a pattern, and it's happening on multiple fronts at once: Voter roll purges, attacks on mail voting, federal agents at the polls… the list goes on and on. Each of these on its own would be alarming. Together, they add up to a coordinated effort to make it harder to vote and easier to throw out results Trump doesn’t like.
The Democratic Party of New Mexico has been preparing for this fight. We hired a Voter Protection Director at the beginning of this year, Victoria, and she has built a solid program. We will have volunteer poll watchers and challengers throughout the state. We will station lawyers in key precincts. We are working with national groups on our side like the DNC and the DCCC to ensure we have a seamless, cohesive response to any Trump efforts nationally to undermine our elections. We are ready.
But all of this costs money.
Right now we're behind $4,325 behind where we need to be to fully staff this program through November. A gift today, whether it's $25 or $2,500, goes directly toward:
- Training and deploying poll monitors in competitive counties
-
Staffing a voter hotline to answer questions and resolve problems in real time
- Rapid legal response to any attempt at intimidation or interference at the polls
