Folks, I play piano just well enough not to butcher most of the classic rock canon. Springsteen, Elton, and some Billy Joel if I’ve been practicing.
But I've never been the guy people gather around the piano to listen to. And that’s A-OK with me.
I'd argue that's the role I actually fill in Congress, too.
Washington is full of spotlight-seeking solo acts. They want the viral clip, the cable hits, the public adoration.
I've watched a lot of colleagues chase that, and I'll be honest: I'm not a virtuoso, and I'm not pretending to be one.
What I'm good at is the boring, unglamorous work to support, represent, and solve problems for 750,000 people. I have the stats to prove it.
* 8,840 cases resolved. My team chased down VA benefits that were denied for no reason, Social Security checks that stopped coming, and immigration files lost in a federal void.
* 135,000 pieces of constituent mail answered — even the ones that aren’t so complimentary of me.
* $6,000,000 returned to people in IL-06 — their own hard-earned money, which most of them had given up on getting back.
* 440 community events , where I showed up to answer tough questions.
Nobody goes viral for a properly filed VA appeal. But that’s what this job is really all about.
Here's why I'm asking today : our third-quarter FEC fundraising period closes September 30, and it's the last time we’ll file a quarterly finance report before Election Day. When it goes public, our opponents will read it to know whether this seat looks vulnerable.
If they think it does, the dark money and the attack ads will follow.
Will you chip in $10 before the September 30 deadline? This is the last full quarter before voters decide who controls the House for the final two years of the Trump administration — and with it, the future of our democracy. [[link removed]]

I’m not in Washington to dazzle. I’m there to get things done.
