Seeing friends and family: new Covid-19 guidance
*"A Message from City Council Leader, Cllr David Mellen:"*
Cllr David Mellen, leader of Nottingham City Council
The recent change in policy from the Government which they refer to as the rule of 6 applies to social settings only settings such as schools and workplaces are not affected. In a bid to curb the increasing infection rate, we are now being asked to limit our social contact. When seeing friends and family you do not live with you should:
* follow social-distancing rules
* limit how many different people you see socially over a short period of time
* meet people outdoors where practical
From Monday in England, you must not hold social gatherings with more than six people, and this applies in any setting, indoors or outdoors, at home or in the pub. For more information visit Coronavirus (COVID-19): Meeting with others safely (social distancing) [ [link removed] ]
Nottinghams school pupils were back in lessons this week and I thank all children and parents for their attendance and for following the new guidance in their schools. It is hoped that limiting our social contact will help avoid a local lockdown and, crucially, keep schools open. Our children deserve a great education and being in school is the best way for them to achieve this.

wollaton hall christmas
Sadly, I dont think Christmas will escape the impact of the virus and it too will be different this year. Early preparation will no doubt make the festive period much easier for the hospitality and event sector and for those wanting to get and about with their families.
It may only be September but I am really pleased that this week we launched our new illuminated trail at Wollaton Park for the winter. There will be a stunning mix of light, fire and sound, taking in a fairy-lit woodland, festive forest and much more. There will be plenty of picture-perfect moments, including a twinkling tunnel of light and festive food and drink available.
For further information and tickets visit www.christmasatwollaton.org [ [link removed] ]. Nottingham residents can save 10% by booking before Wednesday 30 September.

* Regular hand washing
* Wearing a face covering
* Keeping your distance
* Get a free test if you have symptoms (call 119)
* Limiting the number of people we meet with socially

9/11 towers of light image
Today is the 19th anniversary of 9/11 we stand united with our American friends in remembrance of the innocent people who lost their lives on that day, including British citizens. My thoughts and prayers remain with the family, friends and colleagues of the nearly 3,000 people who died in the tragedy. Some 343 firefighters also lost their lives in responding to the disaster, an important reminder about the bravery of emergency services and how they put themselves in harms way to try to save others.
It is also a day where we reaffirm our commitment against hate and extremism. We can take pride in the fact that people in Nottingham reject hate and extremism, and we are a city where people generally get on with each other, respect one another and celebrate diversity.
