John,
Our nation was forever changed on September 11, 2001.
Today, we remember those who perished and those whose lives were irrevocably changed because of the events of that day -- families and communities who lost loved ones, first responders who continue to suffer long-term health consequences, and everyone whose lives and nations were upended in the resulting war on terror.
We saw the absolute worst of humanity that day -- but we also saw the best. Friends, neighbors, coworkers, and complete strangers all stepped up for one another. Our country came together as one, and our strength carried us through.
We must never forget the 2,977 mothers and fathers, brothers and sisters, neighbors and friends we lost that day. And we must never forget the love, kindness, strength, and solidarity we showed in the face of unspeakable violence -- that is the America we are.
I am honored to be with you as we remember the best of our nation and commit ourselves to embodying those values every single day. Never forget.
Sincerely yours,
