Dear Friend,
Each year at this time, we recall that Rosh Hashanah marks the anniversary of the creation of the world, and that each year, we ourselves have the opportunity to create the world anew. For many, that theme of renewal and hope will take on special resonance this year.
That’s why I wanted to write to you today to reflect on this moment, on the future we want to build in the year ahead and on the work of an organization which gives me hope, J Street. This new year, their work to restore our values to our nation’s leadership will be more important than ever, as we work together to pave a new path toward a brighter future for Americans, Israelis and Palestinians.
If you feel able, please consider contributing to sustain J Street’s work through this challenging moment. All donations which help them reach their Rosh Hashanah goal are deeply appreciated.
Friend, as I reflect on this moment of universal creation, I often try to conceptualize the time before that moment of creation at the beginning of the Torah. A timeless place, devoid of form, filled with only darkness -- a place which has perhaps never felt quite so familiar.
To start our story of progress, light, first and foremost, was required.
This season of rejoicing comes to remind us that growth and renewal are possible, that our paramount responsibility on this earth is to introduce light to the darkness. Amid foreboding times -- a pandemic, threats to democracy, polarization and unadulterated cruelty -- our job is to shine a light on glimmers of hope and kernels of possibility.
Being part of J Street has helped me to retain that sense of hope and possibility. J Street has opened up the conversation in Washington and across the globe to voices that speak the truth that peace can only be achieved by pursuing justice and equality, and cherishing the dignity of every human being.
This is why I support J Street, and it is why I feel so supported by J Street. J Street galvanizes us to keep protesting and advocating, gathering together and raising our voices, comforting and encouraging one another when the road is long, arduous and filled with frustration. J Street reminds us that the arc only bends toward justice when we use all the power at our disposal to bend it in that direction.
Please chip in to help J Street reach their Rosh Hashanah fundraising goal.
With blessings for a happy, healthy and peaceful new year in which we continue to pursue justice and righteousness together and bring light to the world.
