More than 8.4 million acres have burned in U.S. wildfires in 2026. That’s nearly twice as much acreage as burned by this point last year — and wildfire season isn’t over yet.

Congress can take steps now to reduce wildfire risks and help communities prepare.

As we come to the tail end of the most destructive wildfire season in a decade, communities across the country have felt the impacts. Wildfires have put lives and property at risk, damaged ecosystems, worsened air quality and released carbon pollution that contributes to climate change.

To help reduce wildfire risks, the bipartisan Fix Our Forests Act would advance proactive forest management and preparedness.
