Before I tell you about each of them — state legislatures play a major
role in shaping the reality of people’s everyday lives. They’re where
abortion bans get blocked or passed, where Medicaid gets expanded or
gutted, where working families either get a seat at the table or get left
out entirely while corporations write the rules. That’s why Leaders We
Deserve backs bold, people-powered candidates to run in them.

Katrina Manetta has always refused to accept broken systems as normal. By
refusing to accept something as “just how it is” time and time again,
instinct turned into action. She became a community organizer because she
was tired of seeing decisions being made that didn’t represent the
community. Organizing taught her how to listen, how to mediate between
different perspectives, and how to keep people engaged even when change
feels slow.

In Macomb County, Katrina will fight to lower costs for Michigan's working
families, focusing on housing, groceries, and healthcare. She’ll work to
make higher education more affordable for Michiganders and push for higher
pay for teachers. And she’ll protect workers and support policies that
expand skilled-trades and job training as well as keep high paying jobs in
Michigan, working to ensure that new technology doesn’t lead to lower
wages or lost jobs.

Her opponent, Republican Ron Robinson has backed expanded concealed carry
legislation and stricter voter-ID requirements. This district is a
red-blue toss up, but Katrina is exactly the kind of candidate who can
flip the seat blue, because she’s been building community and fighting for
her neighbors long before this race.

Audrey Grant grew up in and around Hardwick, VT in rural poverty, and knew
her family wasn’t the only one struggling. But watching her mom’s
generosity and empathy, despite their own hardships, instilled a love of
community, civic engagement, and the natural beauty of the Green Mountain
State in Audrey. She has always been a fierce advocate for her neighbors,
and holds a strong passion for making government more understandable and
accessible. She is the Program Director for the American Legion Auxiliary
Green Mountain Girls State and a member of the League of Women Voters
Vermont, giving her the opportunity to support Vermont’s youth and civic
engagement through various channels.

In Hardwick and Stannard, Audrey will focus on affordability,
infrastructure, and local resilience. She will help foster local economic
growth and development by supporting community infrastructure projects and
in response to yearly flooding in the region, Audrey will push for
strengthened disaster relief programs and localized resilience.

This seat is in a community that leans blue, though it’s currently
occupied by a Republican. Michael Southworth has voted against funding to
expand affordable housing, stabilizing community mental health and
substance use providers, and other crucial services. Vermonters have
previously voted this seat blue, and now Audrey needs your support to flip
this seat back and provide the representation her district deserves.

Jeff Haylon is a businessman and woodworker as well as a two-term
Selectboard member. He has also served as a library trustee and on various
other boards and communities. Jeff’s unwavering commitment to community
and Rutland county has fueled his campaign to flip this seat blue.

In Rutland County, Jeff will focus on lowering costs for Vermonters,
addressing high property taxes, housing costs, and giving communities more
local control over spending. He also will work towards a single-payer
healthcare system and proposes a multi-state healthcare compact. He
proposes the consolidation of school districts (without closing local
schools) to save on administrative costs while improving student support.
Jeff supports funding for public safety alongside investments in social
services and working to address the root causes of crime.

District 9 is a district that leans Democratic yet is still held by a
Republican. Jeff is running against Aida Nielsen, the wife of the outgoing
Republican representative, Todd Nielsen. Aida is an anti-vax nurse and an
advisor to her husband during his time in office. Todd has voted against
numerous pieces of legislation on conservation and renewable energy, and
co-sponsored a bill to decrease vaccination requirements in hospitals. To
bring the constituents of Rutland County leadership that truly reflects
the community there, Jeff needs your support.

Brad Chambers has shown he is relentlessly committed to his community and
finding solutions that work for the people. He grew up with a single mom
and teacher who took on multiple jobs and worked long hours to provide for
her children. After graduating college into a depleted job market, he
found himself unable to afford housing. This shaped his views on the gap
between having a college degree and economic stability. After this period,
Brad got involved with PA Furniture Mission, which provides furniture to
people getting back on their feet.

In District 41, Brad will push for increasing PA’s share of K-12 education
funding while reducing reliance on property taxes. He wants to expand
financial support for student teachers and invest in trade and vocational
education programs. He supports a single-payer healthcare system that
reduces costs and makes coverage more accessible, while lowering
prescription drug prices and codifying reproductive rights in the state’s
Constitution. Brad will also push to expand access to quality, affordable
housing in the county through incentives to build affordable housing,
strengthening tenant protections, and fostering programs to support
homebuyers.

District 41 is currently represented by Republican Brett Miller, who’s
running for re-election. Miller is vehemently anti-choice, voting
continuously to take away this right in every possible circumstance. This
seat is a toss-up, and Brad needs your support to help flip the seat blue.
