Gina’s candidacy comes with so many firsts for the great state of Texas.

She is the first person to tie in polls with Greg Abbott and is the closest anyone has come to ending his 12 year reign.

Gina is already making history, being the closest anyone has come to flipping the Texas governorship in over 30 years. No Democrat has won a statewide race since 1994, and Gina would be the first Democratic governor elected since 1991.

Gina would also be the first governor from the Rio Grande Valley. She was born in McAllen and grew up in Brownsville, two border cities in the southernmost part of Texas. Texas has never had a governor raised on the border, and her upbringing rooted in Valley culture, hard work, and determination are what have helped her in her political career.
