According to the Los Angeles Police Department, officers responded to the 6600 block of Darby Avenue for a report of a shooting at 11:16 p.m. Monday. Upon arriving at the scene, the officers found a man who had been shot at least once. An LAPD spokesperson was unable to confirm where or exactly how many times he had been shot but did say the man suffered non-life-threatening wounds. He was said to be in stable condition Tuesday morning. Video posted to the Citizen App in the wake of the shooting shows a man being loaded into an ambulance while investigators probed the sidewalk along Darby Street. “Preliminary information indicates two suspects approached the victim on foot and asked the victim where he was from,” the police department spokesperson told KTLA. “One of the suspects produced a handgun and fired at the victim.” The suspects then fled into a vehicle nearby and drove away. They have not been apprehended as of Tuesday morning. KTLA 5 Shooting near abandoned Mulholland Drive home adds to residents' worries As law enforcement investigates the shooting of a man near the site of an abandoned home along Mulholland Drive, neighbors say the violence adds to their mounting concerns about the troubled property. Community members who live near the iconic road have expressed fears and frustrations over dangerous activity at an abandoned home on the 7700 block of Mulholland Drive. Neighbors said trespassers hold parties at the property, vandalize it and use it as a site to light illegal fireworks. Recently, a man was hospitalized after three masked men shot him in the leg at the site. Details on what led up to the shooting remain under investigation, but the violence has left the neighborhood unnerved. “I think it's a real sign that once again, the district needs to pay attention here and we need more surveillance,” a woman named Lisa, who declined to give her last name, said. “The fire hazard is probably the most prevalent concern of all of ours,” she said. “It is not a place that you need to be lighting fireworks or anything else.” Neighbors said they’ve been complaining about the site. They added that their calls to police, the city and Councilwoman Nithya Raman, who represents this district, have produced little meaningful change. Following a report by NBCLA, a padlock was placed on the gate of the property, but it’s done little to keep trespassers out. NBC 4 Nick Reiner will not face the death penalty if convicted of his parents' murders, Los Angeles County DA says Prosecutors said they will not seek the death penalty for Nick Reiner if he is convicted of killing his parents, Hollywood director Rob and photographer Michele, ahead of a pretrial hearing on Wednesday. Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman told reporters before the hearing that his office took the views of Nick's siblings, Jake and Romy, into consideration while making the decision. He said life in prison without the possibility of parole is now the maximum sentence Reiner could face if convicted of all charges. "This decision reflects our careful judgment about the most appropriate path to take in this case and does not diminish the severity of these crimes," District Attorney Hochman said. "I have spoken to the Reiner family and evaluated the mitigating and aggravating factors that are part of special circumstance murder cases. Seeking capital punishment should be reserved for the most egregious instances, and we determined after a thorough review that the death penalty was not the appropriate resolution in this case." Hochman also added that the trial won't begin in 2026. Reiner is currently being held in jail on no bail. CBS 2 42 kilos of fentanyl, small alligator seized during search of luxury L.A. apartment Two people living in a luxury downtown Los Angeles apartment believed to be a stash house have been arrested for allegedly possessing more than 42 kilograms of fentanyl, firearms, a small alligator and more, the Department of Justice announced Tuesday. Marvin Angelito, 27, and Susan Gonzalez, 26, were arrested Sept. 10 and charged with possession with intent to distribute fentanyl. According to the complaint, their apartment was a known drug trafficking location. Law enforcement executed a search warrant at the property, which resulted in the seizure of 42.6 kilograms of fentanyl pills and powder, approximately one kilogram of heroin, 7.2 kilograms of cocaine, laboratory equipment and a hydraulic press. Law enforcement also seized an AR-15 rifle with ammunition, a gold-plated Desert Eagle .50-caliber pistol, a police radio, and a small alligator, which was released into the custody of U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service agents. Angelito and Gonzalez appeared in United States District Court in Downtown Los Angeles on Monday. Angelito was ordered to be detained and Gonzalez was released on a $15,000 bond, according to the Department of Justice. No pleas were entered during the initial appearance. KTLA 5 Los Angeles Walgreens Specialty Pharmacy ransacked, medication apparently stolen A Walgreens Specialty Pharmacy in Los Angeles was ransacked overnight, according to police and video footage. The Los Angeles Police Department says the call regarding the burglary came out at 3:13 a.m. in the 3700 block of South La Brea Avenue. Officers were dispatched specifically for a “burglary suspects there now call,” an LAPD spokesperson said. A Walgreens Specialty Pharmacy is located within that block at 3745 South La Brea. Those facilities are different than typical Walgreens stores; the company’s website states that the specialty pharmacies support patients with “complex or chronic, often life-threatening conditions” including cancer, autoimmune disorders or rare genetic diseases. When the LAPD officers responded to Tuesday morning’s burglary call, they found the windows to the business smashed. While it was unknown exactly what was stolen, video from the scene obtained by KTLA shows medicines had been taken off shelves inside the pharmacy. No arrests were made, LAPD said. KTLA 5 Father-son duo guilty in serial ATM robberies A man who repeatedly robbed ATM users at gunpoint while his father acted as the getaway driver was found guilty by a Sacramento County jury Monday. Myahl Chapman-Joseph, 24, faces up to 45 years in prison for the crimes. Deleon Joseph, 45, faces seven years. In the span of three and a half months in 2023, Chapman-Joseph robbed eight people at Wells Fargo and Golden 1 Credit Union ATMs while brandishing a gun, and attempted to rob a ninth. He wore a mask, ambushed victims while they were withdrawing money and threatened them, the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office said in a statement. Police found two guns used in the robberies in Chapman-Joseph and Joseph’s home. Chapman-Joseph was convicted of eight robbery charges and one attempted robbery charge. Joseph was convicted of one robbery charge. Los Angeles Times Stalker fatally shoots California woman after months of harassment, investigators say Shalini Thakur was supposed to celebrate her 39th birthday this week. Instead, she was laid to rest. The Sacramento woman was killed last Tuesday by a man who had stalked her for months, according to authorities. The man, identified as 22-year-old Rohit Rohit, chased Thakur down outside a Panera and shot her multiple times, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release. After she fell to the ground, he stood over her and shot her in the head, according to the release. A bystander took a photo of Rohit’s license plate and called 911, according to Sheriff Jim Cooper. Deputies entered the information into Flock’s camera system and located the vehicle nearby along Highway 50, Cooper said in a video released on social media. Rohit then slammed on his brakes and fatally shot himself, according to investigators. Rohit had been stalking Thakur since at least January, when she discovered he’d placed an Apple AirTag under the hood of her vehicle, the sheriff’s office said in a news release. He once deflated her tires and followed her to work so he could offer her help, and another time copied the key to her apartment and entered while she was sleeping, claiming he was worried something had happened to her because she hadn’t answered his communications, the release said. Los Angeles Times BWC shows Ga. officer’s initial arrest of man who killed him 5 days later Body camera video shows Warm Springs Police Sgt. Chris Fisher arresting the suspect who fatally shot him five days later, WRBL reported. Fisher stopped Jimmy Steverson on Aug. 27 after smelling marijuana coming from his vehicle. When speaking with Fisher, Steverson admitted that he had been drinking. Steverson then became increasingly non-compliant as the encounter continued, WRBL reported. When Fisher attempted to detain Steverson, a physical altercation began. Fisher attempted a leg sweep, but fell to the ground, bringing Steverson down on top of him. The two exchanged strikes while struggling on the ground. Fisher then deployed his TASER as Steverson attempted to flee. The TASER was ineffective, as only one prong struck Steverson in the right earlobe, WRBL reported. Fisher eventually placed Steverson into handcuffs. He was taken for medical treatment, then transported to jail. Warm Springs Police seized several firearms and $5,000 following the incident. Five days later, Steverson fatally shot Fisher as he sat in his cruiser. Steverson then fled, prompting a manhunt that ended when he was found wounded by an apparent self-inflicted gunshot. He later died.
